Helix Midnight Luxe

The Helix Midnight Luxe earned perfect 10/10 scores for motion isolation and edge support in testing, with a 9/10 for responsiveness and a 9/10 for cooling using the TENCEL cover version reviewed. Its medium feel (5–6/10), plush pillow top, and zoned lumbar coils made it the strongest Helix model tested for side sleepers and combination sleepers who want softer shoulder cushioning without sacrificing edge stability or partner disturbance protection.

Testing Scores

Response Time: 9/10
Motion Isolation: 10/10
Edge Support: 10/10
Cooling: 9/10
Value: 7/10
Overall: 10/10

Pros:
– Scored 10/10 for motion isolation in testing; ball weights placed on one side remained steady while the reviewer moved around on the other side, and a real-world partner test produced only slight, non-disruptive movement — the reviewer described this as among the best motion isolation she has tested in a hybrid.
– Scored 10/10 for edge support; the reviewer sat in multiple positions at the full perimeter with minimal compression, and lying near the edge produced no roll-off sensation — reinforced perimeter coils held throughout both tests.
– Scored 9/10 for responsiveness; 10-pound weights bounced back promptly in drop tests, and the reviewer found position changes easy and unrestricted during combination sleep testing.
– Plush pillow top and zoned lumbar coils cushioned the shoulder and hip for side sleeping without the “stuck” or “sinking” sensation the reviewer associates with thick memory foam — the shoulder zone felt softer than the hip zone in testing.
– Scored 9/10 for cooling (TENCEL cover version); the reviewer did not experience heat buildup during sleep sessions, and the cover stayed comfortable throughout the night. The GlacioTex cover option may perform better in this category.

Cons:
– Responsiveness scored 9/10 rather than 10/10 — the reviewer noted a small lag compared to latex or gel grid alternatives, which may matter for combination sleepers who switch positions frequently during the night.
– Stomach sleepers who prefer a very firm surface may find the plush pillow top and memory foam layers too accommodating — the reviewer noted the zoned coils provide some midsection pushback, but dedicated heavy stomach sleepers should consider a firmer Helix model.
– The TENCEL cover version scored 9/10 for cooling rather than a perfect score; sleepers who run very hot may want to confirm availability of the GlacioTex upgrade before purchasing or factor that into the decision.

Why We Picked It

The Helix Midnight Luxe earned perfect scores for both motion isolation (10/10) and edge support (10/10) in testing, combined with a 9/10 for responsiveness and cooling — a well-rounded result that reflects the strength of its zoned coil and copper gel memory foam construction. The reviewer specifically noted the softer shoulder zone provided genuine pressure relief during side sleeping compared to firmer Helix models, and it is the top pick among Helix mattresses for side and combination sleepers who want a plusher hybrid feel, strong partner disturbance protection, and full usable edge-to-edge sleeping surface.

How the Mattress Feels

The Helix Midnight Luxe sits at a 5 to 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale — a true medium feel with a noticeably plush first impression from the pillow top. During testing, the reviewer described the shoulder zone as meaningfully softer than the lumbar zone, with the zoned coils providing more pushback in the center of the mattress than at the edges — a distinction she could feel clearly when transitioning between side and back sleeping. Side and combination sleepers will find the most comfort here; strict stomach sleepers and back sleepers who prefer a firm, non-yielding surface are the most likely to find the plush layers too accommodating for sustained alignment.

What It’s Made Of

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a 13.5-inch hybrid mattress built from bottom to top: a DuraDense high-density foam base, up to 1,000 individually wrapped pocketed coils divided into three support zones (softer at the shoulders, firmer at the lumbar and hips), a Memory Plus Foam transition layer, a copper gel memory foam comfort layer for pressure relief and heat dissipation, a Helix Responsive Foam layer, and a Premium Cooling Pillow Top available in either a breathable TENCEL fabric or GlacioTex™ Cooling fabric. The TENCEL cover was the version tested; the GlacioTex upgrade is available at additional cost.

Hi everyone! Kristina Hindes here. When Helix approached me to review the Midnight Luxe, I wanted to test whether its medium feel, pillow top, and zoned coils made it a better fit for side sleepers than firmer Helix models.

As a sleep coach and product reviewer, I test every mattress using the same weighted drop tests, position-based sleep trials, and hands-on construction review. I tested the Helix Midnight Luxe over several weeks, evaluating it specifically for side sleeping performance, motion transfer, and edge stability before drawing conclusions.

The mattress arrived compressed in a box. It was heavy and took two people to move. Once set up, it expanded to full height within a few hours with a minor off-gassing smell that faded quickly. I tested it across several weeks in my bedroom, evaluating it across side, back, stomach, and combination sleeping, and using 10-pound weighted drop tests for responsiveness and motion isolation.

I was specifically interested in whether the zoned coil and pillow top combination performed differently from the standard Helix Midnight. Especially at the shoulder zone for side sleeping.

During testing, the Midnight Luxe felt softer at the shoulder than the Dawn Luxe while still giving enough pushback under my hips. The pillow top added a plusher first impression, and the zoned coils helped keep the mattress from feeling overly soft underneath.

In the following sections, I’ll take you through my detailed findings, breaking down each aspect of the Helix Midnight Luxe’s performance. I’ll share my personal experiences, test results, and insights to help you determine whether this mattress is the right fit for your unique sleep needs and preferences. So, let’s dive in!

FAST FACTS
  • Expert Evaluation: Kristina has tested more than 50 mattresses and she tested the Helix Midnight Luxe across multiple sleep positions using 10-pound weighted drop tests for responsiveness and motion isolation, seated and perimeter lying for edge support, and several nights of overnight evaluation to assess cooling and feel consistency.
  • High Testing Scores: The Helix Midnight Luxe scored 10/10 for both motion isolation and edge support in testing, and 9/10 for responsiveness and cooling (TENCEL cover version tested). The 10/10 motion isolation score was supported by ball-weight and partner tests where movement on one side produced minimal disturbance on the other. Edge support held up during both seated and perimeter-lying tests.
  • Overall Recommendation: Kristina recommends the Helix Midnight Luxe most for side sleepers and combination sleepers who want a plusher hybrid with zoned support. Its higher price is easier to justify if you specifically want the pillow-top feel and softer shoulder cushioning.

Our Review Process: Each mattress we review undergoes a rigorous evaluation process. We assess comfort, support, cooling, and durability through both subjective experiences and objective tests.

Criteria include pressure relief, spine alignment, mattress responsiveness, motion transfer, edge support, and temperature regulation. This comprehensive approach ensures our reviews are thorough and unbiased.

I. Mattress Layers, Materials and Construction

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a 13.5-inch hybrid. Starting from the base: a DuraDense high-density foam foundation, up to 1,000 individually wrapped pocketed coils divided into three support zones with softer response at the shoulders and firmer reinforcement at the lumbar and hips, a Memory Plus Foam transition layer, a copper gel memory foam comfort layer, a Helix Responsive Foam layer, and a Premium Cooling Pillow Top on top.

The version I tested used the TENCEL cover. The GlacioTex Cooling upgrade is available at added cost and may perform better on cooling. When I pressed across different areas of the mattress, the shoulder zone compressed more easily than the center, which is consistent with the zoned coil design. The pillow top added a noticeably plusher surface feel compared to non-pillow-top Helix models I have tested.

II. Sleeping Positions

As a side sleeper myself, I was particularly interested in how the Helix Midnight Luxe would perform for its intended audience, along with other sleeping positions.

Side Sleeping

In my side-sleeping testing, the pillow top and copper gel memory foam cushioned my shoulder and hip without the slow-to-recover sinking I sometimes notice with thicker memory foam. My shoulder sank in enough to keep my spine neutral without hitting a firmer layer beneath it. I tested this across multiple nights and did not wake up with shoulder tension or hip pressure.

The zoned coils provided firmer resistance under my hips and lumbar than at my shoulder, which is the behavior I was looking for in a mattress for side sleeping. I noticed this most clearly when comparing how my shoulder felt at rest versus how my hip sat on the surface.

Back Sleeping

When lying on my back, I found that the Midnight Luxe provided a comfortable and supportive surface. The memory foam layers contoured to my body, while the coils offered the necessary support to keep my spine properly aligned. I didn’t experience any uncomfortable pressure points or sinking, which is crucial for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleeping

For stomach sleepers, the Midnight Luxe performed better than I expected for a mattress designed primarily for side sleepers. The zoned coils provided adequate support for my hips, preventing them from sinking too far into the mattress and causing lower back strain.

However, some stomach sleepers, particularly those who prefer a firmer surface, may find the plush pillow top and memory foam layers a bit too soft for optimal comfort and support. Another type of mattress for stomach sleeping might be preferred.

Combination Sleeping

As a sleep coach, I know that many people are combination sleepers, meaning they change positions throughout the night. To test the Midnight Luxe’s suitability as a mattress for combination sleepers, I purposely shifted between side, back, and stomach positions during my mattress trial period.

I was pleased to find that the mattress adapted well to position changes, thanks to its responsive coils and memory foam layers. I didn’t feel stuck or struggle to move around, which is essential for combination sleepers who tend to toss and turn. The zoned lumbar support coils also ensured that I received the necessary support in each position, making for a comfortable and restful night’s sleep.

As a combination sleeper, I tested position changes from side to back to stomach throughout my overnight trials. The mattress adapted quickly without resistance. The pillow top and medium firmness worked well for back sleeping during these transitions, though I noticed the surface is softer than what a strict back sleeper who prefers a firmer feel would likely want to sleep on long-term.

III. Response Time

Response time refers to how quickly a mattress returns to its original shape after being compressed. This is particularly important for combination sleepers who shift positions frequently, but its essential function goes beyond just serving combo sleepers’ needs.

By responding promptly to your movements, a responsive mattress stays in sync with position changes rather than lagging behind. This is especially relevant for combination sleepers who shift positions throughout the night, but it also affects how the mattress feels when getting in and out of bed and during any overnight movement. This is what I look for in mattresses for pressure points.

I dropped 10-pound weights onto the mattress surface from consistent heights and observed how quickly the surface recovered. The mattress returned to its original shape within 1-2 seconds consistently. I give the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9 out of 10 for response time. Compared with grid-based or latex hybrid mattresses I have tested, the recovery was slightly slower. It was enough to keep the score at 9/10 rather than 10/10, but faster than most memory foam-heavy hybrids.

You can see this drop test in action in the clip below.

IV. Motion Isolation

Motion isolation determines how much movement transfers across the mattress surface when one person shifts positions or gets in or out of bed. For couples, it is one of the most practical performance factors to test. Hybrid mattresses typically score lower here than all-foam mattresses because coil systems can carry motion laterally. Thus, I went into this test with deliberate skepticism.

When I’m looking for a good mattress with motion isolation, I want it to allow each person to move or get in and out of bed without disturbing their partner’s sleep.

To test the motion isolation of the Helix Midnight Luxe, I conducted several experiments. First, I placed the ball weights from my responsiveness test on one side of the mattress.

Then I proceeded to walk around on the other side, simulating the movements of a partner getting in and out of bed. I was impressed to see that the weights remained relatively steady, no sign of them shifting out of place.

Next, I asked my partner to lie on one side of the bed while I rolled around and changed positions on the other side. My partner reported feeling only slight movement, which didn’t disrupt their comfort or ability to fall asleep.

These tests demonstrate that the Helix Midnight Luxe offers excellent motion isolation, and I give the mattress a perfect 10 out of 10 for motion transfer. The combination of the individually wrapped coils and the memory foam layers effectively absorbs and dampens motion, ensuring that you and your partner can sleep peacefully on a mattress for couples without disturbing each other.

V. Edge Support

Edge support refers to the level of stability and support a mattress provides around its perimeter. Good edge support is essential for a few reasons:

  1. First, it allows you to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed without feeling like you’re going to slide off, important in a mattress for seniors and those with mobility issues who are at risk of falls in the morning.
  2. Second, it provides a larger usable sleeping surface, as you can lie close to the edge without experiencing a roll-off sensation.

To evaluate the edge support of the Helix Midnight Luxe, I performed a few tests. I sat on the edge of the mattress in various positions, simulating putting on shoes or getting dressed. I found that the mattress provided a stable and supportive surface, with minimal compression or sinkage.

I also lay near the edge of the mattress to see if I felt any sensation of rolling off. The Midnight Luxe’s reinforced perimeter coils and high-density foam layers created a sturdy edge, allowing me to sleep comfortably and securely close to the edge without any concerns.

The Helix Midnight Luxe’s individually wrapped coils and high-quality construction provided excellent edge support, earning another 10 out of 10 in this category. To reiterate, this feature is particularly beneficial for couples who want to maximize their sleeping space or for individuals who require assistance when getting in and out of bed.

VI. Cooling and Breathability

Temperature regulation is a key factor in achieving a good night’s sleep. Research has shown as much, suggesting it’s important to stay cool 1 Verified Source National Library of Medicine (NIH) World’s largest medical library, making biomedical data and information more accessible. See the source without tipping over into being cold 2 Verified Source National Library of Medicine (NIH) World’s largest medical library, making biomedical data and information more accessible. See the source , which can disrupt sleep.

Some mattresses can trap heat, leading to discomfort and disrupted sleep. A cooling mattress helps regulate body temperature, ensuring you stay comfortably cool throughout the night.

The Helix Midnight Luxe offers two cover options: a breathable TENCEL cover and a GlacioTex Cooling cover. The model I tested featured the TENCEL cover, which I found to be cool, comfortable, and well-ventilated. Based on my personal experience, I give the Helix Midnight Luxe a 9 out of 10 for cooling and breathability.

I tested the TENCEL cover version. The GlacioTex Cooling cover is available as an upgrade. I have not tested that version personally, so I cannot confirm whether it would score higher on cooling, but based on the materials involved, it is worth confirming availability before purchasing if cooling is the primary concern. However, I would be remiss if I neglected to mention top competitor options that achieved a flawless 10 out of 10 cooling score in my mattress tests:

VII. Durability and Longevity

Investing in a high-quality mattress is a long-term commitment, so durability and longevity are essential considerations. A durable mattress keeps its support and comfort levels over time, ensuring that you continue to enjoy restful and rejuvenating sleep. It prevents sagging, sinking, or loss of firmness, which can lead to discomfort and pain.

A mattress that won’t sag and instead maintains its structural integrity over time eliminates the need for frequent replacements, saving you money in the long run. Helix demonstrates their confidence in the Midnight Luxe by offering a 15-year warranty.

During my personal testing, I carefully examined the mattress’s stitching and overall structure. I was impressed by the attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship. The fact that the hybrid mattress is made in the USA further adds to its appeal.

Now, I admit that a few weeks of testing cannot 100 percent capture the years of wear and tear a typical sleeper places on their mattress. However, based on these observations, I have no reason to doubt the Helix Midnight Luxe’s durability and longevity.

VIII. Potential Drawbacks

While the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress impressed me across most performance categories during my extensive testing, there are some potential drawbacks worth noting for certain individuals.

Firstly, the Helix Midnight Luxe is a taller mattress at 13.5 inches in height. While I personally found this extra thickness luxurious and supportive, this type of thick pillow top mattress could pose challenges for some sleepers.

For example, those with mobility issues may have difficulty getting in and out of such a high bed. The mattress thickness also requires deep pocket fitted sheets, which can be more expensive or harder to find than standard sheet sizes.

Comparing to Other Hybrid Mattresses

For those seeking a thinner mattress option, Helix offers the standard Midnight model. At 11.5 inches thick, it provides similar comfort and support as the Midnight Luxe but with a more modest height that some sleepers may prefer. It’s also a more affordable mattress, making it a great choice for budget-conscious shoppers.

On the other hand, if you crave an even more luxurious and thicker mattress than the Midnight Luxe, consider the Helix Midnight Elite. This ultra-premium 16-inch luxury mattress features additional comfort layers and a dual microcoil system for the ultimate in plush yet supportive sleep.

The Helix Midnight’s medium firmness options may not ideal suit everyone’s unique preferences either. Stomach sleepers who desire an extra-firm mattress for enhanced lower back support might prefer the firmer Amerisleep AS2 mattress instead, which I have preciously awarded high marks.

I have also tested the firm model for back and stomach sleepers, the Helix Dawn Luxe, and found this sister model to be similarly well-constructed.

Meanwhile, side sleepers wanting a softer, more conforming feel should consider the alternatives:

All of which I have personally tested and rated highly for their exceptional comfort and plush feel.

Also, being a luxury hybrid mattress, the Helix Midnight Luxe has a higher price point that could exceed some shoppers’ budgets. While I believe its quality construction and performance justify the cost, it’s undoubtedly an investment.

Plus, when compared to other luxury hybrid mattresses, such as the Saatva Classic or the WinkBed, the Helix Midnight Luxe falls within a similar price range. However, the Midnight Luxe’s unique combination of materials and construction may offer specific advantages for certain types of sleepers.

However, more affordable mattresses include the entry-level Vaya Hybrid, which I recently tested and found to be an excellent value for its quality materials and construction.

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Hybrid is another luxury hybrid option that, while still pricey, comes in slightly lower than the Helix Midnight Luxe.

Comparing to Memory Foam Mattresses

As a hybrid mattress combining foam layers and coils, the Helix Midnight Luxe doesn’t have the same all-foam feel as popular memory foam mattresses. So anyone who strongly prefers the deep contouring sensation of sleeping “in” rather than “on” the mattress may favor an all-foam model like:

Similarly, the Helix Midnight Luxe comes with a pillow top design. While I enjoyed the responsive plushness this provides, not everyone enjoys the look and feel of pillow top mattresses. Anyone who prefers the flatter, more uniform surface typical of many popular direct-to-consumer foam mattresses will likely prefer non-pillow-top models.

Comparing to Latex Mattresses

Lastly, the Helix Midnight Luxe is largely made with synthetic materials. Those who want a greater focus on eco-conscious materials in an organic or natural mattress may want to consider alternatives like Helix’s sister brand Birch and their Natural mattress.

I’ve also reviewed other high-quality natural mattresses that prioritize sustainable, organic materials for a more eco-friendly sleep experience like:

However, for sleepers who aren’t dissuaded by the 15-inch height, want a balanced medium feel with a conforming pillow top, and value a luxury hybrid design, I readily recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe if it suits their budget. Despite some minor and subjective potential drawbacks for outlier preferences, this mattress delivers exceptional performance overall.

IX. Trial Period, Warranty, Pricing, and Sizes

Helix offers a 100-night trial period and a 15-year warranty for the Midnight Luxe mattress, giving customers peace of mind and ample time to decide if it’s the right fit for them. The mattress is available in all standard mattress sizes, including twin to California king.

When compared to other luxury hybrid mattresses I have tested, the Helix Midnight Luxe is priced higher. However, based on my personal experience and the quality of materials and construction, I believe it offers excellent value.

Helix also provides an Affirm financing option, allowing customers to spread the cost over time. To use this option, simply select Affirm at checkout, choose your payment plan, and complete the purchase.

X. Customer Reviews

To provide a well-rounded perspective on the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress, I analyzed customer reviews to supplement my own testing experience. You don’t just have to take my word for it.  Numerous satisfied customers have shared their positive experiences with the Helix Midnight Luxe.

The following summaries highlight the key points from a selection of verified buyer reviews:

  • Kathleen A. – Kathleen found the Helix Midnight Luxe to be a comfortable and supportive mattress, especially compared to their old-fashioned mattress and box springs. She appreciated the reduced motion transfer and the mattress’s appearance. However, she noted that the mattress was a bit large for their existing bed frame and wished white-glove delivery service had been available.
  • George H. – George expressed great satisfaction with his purchase, finding the Helix Midnight Luxe to be very comfortable. He would recommend the mattress to anyone.
  • Autumn T. – Despite initial skepticism, Autumn found the Helix Midnight Luxe to be the best mattress she had ever slept on. She described it as perfect and never wanted to get out of bed.
  • Joy M. – Joy owns two Helix Midnight Luxe mattresses, one for her home and another for her vacation home. She finds the mattresses very comfortable and wakes up feeling wonderful. Joy highly recommends the Helix Midnight Luxe and praises Helix as a great company to work with.

These customer reviews reinforce my positive experience with the Helix Midnight Luxe, highlighting its comfort, support, and overall sleep quality.

While some reviewers mentioned a few minor drawbacks, the overwhelming majority of customers express satisfaction with their purchase and recommend the mattress to others. However, it’s important to acknowledge that not every mattress is perfect for everyone.

XI. Environmental Impact

As a responsible consumer, I always consider the environmental impact of the products I review. During my testing of the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress, I was pleased to discover that Helix places a strong emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Material Certifications

One of the most notable achievements of Helix mattresses, including the Midnight Luxe, is their GREENGUARD Gold Certification. This certification is awarded to products that have been rigorously tested for emissions of over 350 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and have met strict standards for low emissions.

By choosing a GREENGUARD Gold Certified mattress like the Helix Midnight Luxe, you can rest assured that your mattress does not contain harmful chemicals and contributes to a healthier indoor environment.

In addition to the Midnight Luxe, the entire Helix mattress portfolio, as well as mattresses from their sister company, Brooklyn Bedding, have received the GREENGUARD Gold Certification. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to producing safe and environmentally friendly sleep products.

Another important certification to look for when shopping for an eco-friendly mattress is CertiPUR-US. All foams used in Helix products, including the Midnight Luxe, are CertiPUR-US certified foams, ensuring that they are made without harmful chemicals such as ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, and formaldehyde.

CertiPUR-US certified foams also have minimal impact on indoor air quality, contributing to a healthier sleeping environment.

Production and Shipping

I was also impressed to learn that every Helix mattress is assembled in their Arizona facility and shipped directly to the customer’s home. This centralized production allows for greater quality control and reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

The team of engineers, designers, and craftsmen at the Arizona facility have decades of experience in manufacturing high-quality beds, ensuring that each Helix mattress is expertly designed and meticulously assembled.

No Fiberglass

Another aspect of the Helix Midnight Luxe that I appreciate from an environmental standpoint is that Helix mattresses are 100% fiberglass-free. Some mattress brands use fiberglass to meet fire safety standards, but this material can be dangerous if it becomes airborne, potentially irritating owners’ breathing and digestive systems.

Helix has opted for safer alternatives in all of their mattresses, giving consumers peace of mind that their choice is a mattress without fiberglass. It still meets fire safety standards without the risk of exposing their home to harmful materials.

XII. Maintenance and Care

To ensure your Helix Midnight Luxe mattress lasts as long as possible, follow these simple maintenance and care tips:

  • While Helix recommends using a waterproof mattress protector, it’s not a requirement.
  • If cleaning the mattress is necessary, spot clean the affected area and allow it to air dry.
  • Never flip the mattress upside down, as the breathable Tencel cover should always face up. Rotating the mattress is optional but not mandatory.
  • Regularly cleaning your bedding and sheets will also help maintain your mattress’s longevity.

XIII. Final Verdict – Overall Score: 10/10

After personally testing the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress, I can confidently give it an overall score of 10 out of 10. The mattress excelled in edge support and motion transfer, two critical factors for couples sharing a bed.

The high-quality materials and construction, combined with the eco-friendly manufacturing processes, make the Helix Midnight Luxe a top choice for those seeking a luxurious and comfortable sleep experience.

Although the mattress may have a higher price point compared to some competitors, I believe the investment is well worth it for the quality and durability it offers. As with any mattress purchase, it’s essential to consider your individual sleep preferences and needs.

However, based on my personal testing and the overwhelmingly positive customer reviews, I highly recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe for anyone looking to upgrade their sleep experience.
