As a longtime wellness advocate, my background in clinical psychology and social work informs my holistic understanding of sleep’s impact on overall health and happiness. I factor in how mattresses not only provide surface-level comfort but also empower restorative sleep, considering aspects like spinal support and temperature regulation.
My interdisciplinary perspective attunes me to nitpick subtle performance factors that make a difference in sleep quality night after night. I draw connections between design elements like responsive memory layers with health outcomes like reduced back pain.
And, as a dedicated mother of two who places high value on their growing health and wellness, I am personally motivated to provide the information they and others need to make good purchases for their continued well-being.
After carefully assessing the performance and comfort of the AS2, below I share everything you need to know – the layered construction, sleeping experience for different positions, motion transfer, edge support, cooling, durability, warranties and return policies, pricing, customer reviews, and more.
After analyzing customer experiences across various sites, including Amerisleep’s website, third-party review platforms, and other sources, I concluded most back and stomach sleepers should achieve restful slumber but those wanting ample cradling may need an alternative model tailored to their sleeping habits and body types.
You can read my thoughts below or watch the video above. My goal is to translate the science of sleep and cutting-edge mattress technologies into digestible advice guiding you to your best fit.
- Thoughtful Construction: The Amerisleep AS2 features a well-designed construction with four layers aimed at providing support, comfort, and cooling. From the high-density base layer to the innovative Bio-Pur® memory foam and the cooling Refresh Cover, each component works in harmony to deliver a restful sleeping experience.
- Versatile Support: With its medium-firm feel, the AS2 is suitable for back and stomach sleepers, offering excellent spinal alignment and support. However, side sleepers may find it too firm for their liking, and they might prefer a softer option like the Amerisleep AS3.
- Temperature Regulation and Durability: The AS2 excels in temperature regulation, ensuring a cool and comfortable sleep environment throughout the night. Additionally, Amerisleep’s commitment to quality construction and a 20-year warranty underscores the mattress’s durability and long-term performance.
Our Review Process: Each mattress we review undergoes a rigorous evaluation process. We assess comfort, support, cooling, and durability through both subjective experiences and objective tests.
Criteria include pressure relief, spine alignment, mattress responsiveness, motion transfer, edge support, and temperature regulation. This comprehensive approach ensures our reviews are thorough and unbiased.
I. Mattress Layers, Materials and Construction
Unboxing the thoughtfully packed Amerisleep AS2, I was pleased to discover it expanded to full height almost instantly with no off-putting smells.
After it was free from its plastic wrappings, it was time to move the mattress to my bed frame. The AS2 is designed to work with most bed frames and foundations, including platform beds, slatted bases (with slats no more than 3 inches apart), and adjustable bases.
Once I had set up the mattress on my frame. Assessing the layered construction, I focused on the quality of materials and support system. Overall, the AS2 contains four layers.
Support Foam
The base layer utilizes 7-inch Bio-Core® high-density polyfoam with an impressive density rating of 2.0 pounds per cubic foot (PCF). This provides exceptional reinforcement for the layers above and a sturdy, stable feel when I tested mattress firmness and support.
Transition Foam
Next is a 3-inch transitional Affinity foam layer with Amerisleep’s proprietary Hive® technology. Featuring hundreds of hexagonal cutouts, this zoning system relieves tension at pressure points while preventing sinkage in heavier zones.
Though firmer foams diminish this layer’s effects in my experience, it still allows sensitive areas to compress.
Comfort Foam
The key comfort layer uses 2 inches of Bio-Pur® open-cell memory foam. Its advanced cell structure enhances breathability and airflow versus traditional memory foam, with rapid response time to prevent “stuck” feelings.
Bio-Pur® delivered noticeable contouring without heat retention or excessive sinkage. I never felt trapped in memory foam or got too hot while sleeping on the AS2.
Instead, sinking into the AS2 felt almost like being cradled by a cloud. That is, if that cloud was made of advanced foams engineered by sleep scientists to perfectly support your spine!
Mattress Cover
Finally, the high-tech Refresh Cover contains a proprietary blend of minerals and infrared-emitting fibers to convert body heat into energy, boosting blood circulation for accelerated muscle recovery. Remarkably cool-to-touch, this cover complements the mattress’s advanced temperature regulation.
Expert’s Analysis
Based on my trial, I can say Amerisleep’s claims ring true – I woke up refreshed, even after I may have had a strenuous workout the previous day. The AS2’s thoughtful construction and advanced materials provide exceptional comfort and support.
For sleepers with chronic back pain or mobility concerns, the AS2’s combination of targeted support and pressure relief can be particularly beneficial. The HIVE transition layer’s zoned support helps to maintain proper spinal alignment.
Meanwhile, the Bio-Pur memory foam contours to the body, reducing pressure points that can exacerbate pain and discomfort. Amerisleep offers a compatible adjustable base that can enhance the mattress’s customization and pressure-relieving capabilities.
As a sleep coach, I’ve tested dozens of mattresses that promise a good night’s sleep but fail to deliver. However, as I lay down on the AS2 for the first time, I could immediately feel the difference.
II. Sleeping Positions
As a medium-firm mattress (7/10 on the firmness scale), the AS2 performed excellently for my back and stomach sleeping. The AS2 delivers a carefully calculated blend of comfort and support needed for spinal alignment.
Being on the firmer side, with responsive support, it would also likely be ideal for anyone seeking back pain relief.
As Dr. Jordan Burns states, “Research has shown that firmer mattresses, like the Amerisleep AS2, provide pressure-relief support to help to reduce pain and keep your spine in a neutral alignment.”
Back Sleeping
When testing the AS2 for back sleeping, I found that it provided excellent support and kept my spine in a neutral position. The Bio-Pur® memory foam comfort layer contoured to my lower back, while the HIVE® transition layer offered targeted support to maintain proper alignment. The firmness of the mattress prevented my hips from sinking in too deeply, which is crucial for maintaining a healthy sleeping posture.
Back sleepers who prefer a firmer mattress and those suffering from back pain may find the AS2 particularly well-suited to their needs. The combination of pressure relief and support can help alleviate discomfort and promote a more restful sleep experience.
However, if a touch of softness is to your taste in mattresses for back sleeping, I would recommend a buoyant medium-feel mattress like Amerisleep’s Organica or AS3 models.
Stomach Sleeping
For stomach sleepers, the AS2’s firmer feel and responsive support make it an excellent choice. When I tested the mattress in this position, I noticed that it kept my hips from sinking in excessively. As a mattress for stomach sleeping, it prevented my lower back from arching uncomfortably.
The Bio-Pur® memory foam provided a gentle cushioning effect, while the HIVE® layer and high-density base foam worked together to maintain proper spinal alignment.
Stomach sleepers often require a firmer mattress to prevent their hips from sinking in too deeply, which can lead to lower back strain. The AS2’s medium-firm feel strikes a balance between comfort and support, making it a suitable option for this sleeping position.
Side Sleeping
For me as a side sleeper, it felt moderately comfortable but was still quite firm. The surface did still allow areas like my shoulders and hips to sink in gently, but not quite as much as I enjoy.
Thus, I’d likely opt for Amerisleep’s softer models designed specifically for side sleepers over the AS2, such as the Amerisleep AS3. For curvier side sleepers who enjoy a truly plush mattress that lets their hips and shoulders sink in, there’s also the Amerisleep AS5. These mattresses have thicker comfort layers to increase how well they mold to the body.
Combination Sleeping
For combination sleepers who switch between back, stomach, and side positions throughout the night, the AS2’s responsiveness and supportive feel can facilitate easy movement and provide consistent comfort. The Bio-Pur® memory foam comfort layer contours to the body without excessive sinkage, while the HIVE® transition layer offers targeted support to maintain proper spinal alignment in various positions.
However, for combination sleepers who primarily sleep on their side or prefer a softer mattress feel, the AS2 might not provide enough pressure relief for the shoulders and hips. In my experience as a side sleeper, the AS2 felt moderately comfortable but was still quite firm. The surface did allow areas like my shoulders and hips to sink in gently, but not quite as much as I enjoy.
Combination sleepers who spend a significant portion of the night on their side may find the medium feel of the Amerisleep AS3 more suitable. This model offers a balance of support and pressure relief as a mattress for combination sleeping, with a slightly softer comfort layer that allows for more cushioning around the shoulders and hips. There’s also the AS3 Hybrid, for combo sleepers that enjoy the feel of coils.
III. Response Time – Score: 9/10
A responsive mattress is crucial as it adapts to individual body contours, providing optimal support and comfort, and ensuring a restful sleep that caters to diverse sleep preferences and positions.
In other words, a quick mattress responsiveness when changing positions is so important for freedom of movement and avoiding feeling “trapped” in bed.
I’m thrilled to report that the AS2 bounces back rapidly after compression. When I stretched out on the surface, there was minimal sinkage and hug typical in memory foam while still reacting quickly to changing positions.
Imagine you’re cooking a meal and need to quickly grab an ingredient from the fridge. You open the door, grab what you need, and the fridge door swings back to its original position effortlessly. That’s similar to how the AS2 responds to your body movements – it quickly adapts and returns to its original shape, ensuring consistent comfort and support.
Even repeatedly standing and lying back down, the mattress’s structure regained form instantly. Switching from my back to side also took little effort to feel realigned, earning a superb response time score in my assessment. This quick adaptation prevented feeling “stuck in the mud” which can hurt the quality of your sleep.
I also tested the mattress using my standard responsiveness test of standing by the side of the mattress, holding a 10-pound weight above my head, and dropping it onto the bed. The weight bounced gently, and the mattress was quick to cradle it as it settled, yet snapped back into shape within seconds of the weight’s removal.
IV. Motion Transfer and Edge Support
I’ve chosen to review these two traits together as they both go together hand-in-hand, primarily coming from the mattress’s support unit. Edge support in mattresses ensures a stable sleep surface, preventing sagging and allowing full utilization of the mattress.
Mattress motion isolation minimizes disturbances, ideal for undisturbed sleep when sharing the bed, enhancing overall sleep quality.
You can see me testing out these two aspects in the clip below!
Motion Transfer Score: 10/10
For sleeping partners, excess motion transfer can severely disturb your sleep. But with the AS2, I was impressed by how isolated, subtle movements remained.
Imagine you’re sleeping soundly, and your partner gets up to use the restroom. On a mattress with poor motion isolation, you’d feel the bed shake and move, potentially waking you up. However, with the AS2’s excellent motion isolation, you’d likely continue sleeping peacefully, undisturbed by your partner’s movements.
In one of my favorite tests, I plopped some weights down beside me to score motion transfer and isolate movement. Tossing and turning as normal, the weights barely budged, showcasing stellar motion isolation.
You may have seen similar tests performed with other household objects set on the mattress, such as a glass of water, while a tester bounces on the bed to see if their movements ripple enough across the surface to knock the item. However, I prefer to test the mattress in line with expected wear and tear.
Couples should have no trouble staying undisturbed by a partner’s movements. However, if you want to be certain, you can consider the split king mattress option, which gives each partner their own mattress.
Edge Support Score: 8/10
As for edge support, the perimeter allowed me to sit comfortably without sliding off the side. To test this, I sat on the side of the bed and noted how the edge underneath me withstands my weight. I should note this can be somewhat subjective and also that I’m of an average build for a woman. Heavier sleepers may put more strain on the mattress than I do.
Picture yourself sitting on the edge of the bed to put on your shoes or read a book. With the AS2’s edge support, you’ll feel stable and supported, without the sensation of sliding off the mattress. This is particularly important for people who struggle with mobility issues or often sit on the edge of the bed.
Many all-foam mattresses struggle with offering reinforced edges, yet Amerisleep combats this typical downfall with edges that remain supportive enough for me to spend a few minutes just sitting on the side of the bed.
However, my weight did compress the edges more substantially compared to the middle area. Still, for an all-foam construction, the AS2 holds up better than average in this category.
V. Cooling and Breathability – Score: 10/10
Between the breathable foam layers and cooling cover, Amerisleep’s AS2 mattress excels in temperature regulation. I never woke up overheated or sweaty, even in the summer. The cover pleasantly reduces surface heat while you sleep, its cutting-edge materials excellently wicking away warmth and increasing airflow keeping the sleeper fresh all night.
The Refresh Cover, made from a specialized fabric designed to draw heat away from the body. Through enhanced energy transfer capabilities, this cover can keep the sleeping surface up to 7 degrees cooler over an 8-hour sleep period compared to a traditional polyester cover.
The infused minerals in the cover have properties that can absorb and dissipate heat more effectively. When these cooling minerals come in contact with body heat, they work to draw heat away from the body, keeping the surface of the fabric cooler. Essentially, it’s a natural way to help regulate temperature and make the sleeping surface feel cooler and more comfortable.
Underneath the cover lies the Bio-Pur® comfort layer foam. Constructed with an open-cell design, the structure allows increased airflow and breathability compared to traditional memory foam. The open cells allow heat to dissipate instead of building up within the material. These natural ingredients also tend to have better breathability and can dissipate heat more efficiently than an all-synthetic design.
As I discuss below, reviewers consistently praise the cooling properties of Bio-Pur®, with many hot sleepers finding relief from overheating.
The combination of the moisture-wicking abilities of the Refresh Cover and the airflow permitted by the Bio-Pur® layer proves highly effective at temperature regulation. By drawing heat away from the body and allowing it to dissipate, Amerisleep has engineered an exceptionally cool sleeping surface that caters to those wanting to stay cool while they sleep.
Truly, Amerisleep pulls out all stops to prevent heat retention. I never awoke drenched in sweat or needing to adjust to cool down, ensuring I stayed pleasantly cool even in a warm bedroom.
Along with the other Amerisleep mattresses that earned a flawless score for cooling, this puts the Amerisleep AS2 on the same level as its top-notch cooling competitors:
VI. Durability and Longevity
All Amerisleep mattresses, including the AS2, are handcrafted in the USA using quality, eco-friendly materials. Having mattresses made in the US is important for various reasons, including supporting local industries, ensuring adherence to rigorous safety and quality standards, and minimizing environmental impact through reduced transportation distances.
After personally testing this bed, I saw no immediate signs of poor durability. This mattress seems designed to last thanks to its sturdy construction. All foams felt dense and returned to form without hesitation while the cover and stitching appeared taut and reinforced.
A 20-year warranty on the AS2 protects against defects and impressions greater than an inch deep. The standard length of a mattress warranty is typically ten years, but Amerisleep goes above and beyond industry norms by offering a remarkably long warranty.
This extended coverage not only demonstrates the brand’s confidence in the durability of their mattresses but also provides customers with an extra layer of assurance. Amerisleep’s commitment to a two-decade warranty underscores their dedication to long-term customer satisfaction, assuring buyers that their investment is well-protected.
On average, memory foam mattresses last between 8 to 10 years, depending on various factors such as body weight, sleep habits, and maintenance. Rotating the mattress head-to-foot every 3-6 months can help distribute wear evenly and prevent sagging.
Heavier individuals may experience more pronounced indentations over time. Meanwhile, those with consistent sleep routines and proper maintenance habits can extend the lifespan of their mattress.
And when I looked through reviews, it seems I’m not the only one impressed by its structural integrity. Jaymi provided a positive review, describing the mattress as solid and how impressed they were by its durability and quality. David echoed this as well, calling the mattress a “good firm bed” and that it “seems durable.”
With the quality construction inside the mattress and its stellar protection policies, this bed should easily last over a decade.
VII. Potential Drawbacks
While Amerisleep’s AS2 impressed me in many areas during testing, it may not satisfy all preferences.
Off-Gassing Smell
Now, I didn’t notice much of a new mattress smell when I set up the Amerisleep AS2, and I consider myself to have a fairly sharp nose. But I can’t overlook that someone with a more sensitive may find the AS2 smells unpleasant out of the box, even if this smell will fade with time.
Mattress Firmness
As I mentioned, the medium-firm feel could be too rigid for petite people or those wanting extra pressure relief.
While many stomach, back, and combo sleepers will appreciate the AS2’s firmness, it could be unsuitable if you desire more plush softness and contouring sink-in. Side sleepers and anyone under 130 pounds might be happier with the softer AS3 model instead or even the plush Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid.
Here’s a brief comparison of popular Amerisleep models below:
Mattress Model | Mattress Firmness | Price (Queen) |
---|---|---|
Amerisleep AS2 | Medium (5 to 6 out of 10) | $1099 |
Amerisleep AS3 | Medium-Firm (7 out of 10) | $1299 |
Amerisleep AS5 | Soft (3 to 4 out of 10) | $1899 |
If you’re unsure whether a medium-firm feel is right for you, Amerisleep offers a helpful firmness guide on their website. You can also chat with a sleep specialist on their website or at one of their store locations to get a personalized recommendation based on your body type and preferences.
Mattress Thickness
This model also stays at a typical 12” thickness, so couples wanting to reduce partner disturbance with a thicker design may need to consider Amerisleep’s 14” options instead, such as the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid. Those searching for adequate back support with impressive cooling will love this Amerisleep AS2, however.
No Natural Materials
As an all-foam mattress, the AS2 also lacks the eco-friendly appeal of natural latex or organic materials. Environmentally-conscious shoppers seeking a more sustainable option may prefer the Amerisleep Organica, which uses GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool
Among popular competitors, the Nolah Natural 11 with its Talalay latex and organic textiles.
No Coils Inside
Lastly, as an all-foam mattress, there are no internal coils, thus hybrid mattress shoppers should check out alternative picks. If you prefer springier coils over dense foam, Amerisleep also offers the AS3 Hybrid to better match your priorities.
Alternatively, there are luxury hybrid mattresses from other brands that provide high-end features and a choice of firmness levels, like:
- The Nolah Evolution 15
- The Helix Midnight Luxe
- The Nest Bedding Sparrow Hybrid
- The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe
What Customers Consider Drawbacks
Amerisleep’s review section helpfully begins with a curated list of pros and cons, based upon recurring words in customer’s reviews. For the Amerisleep AS2, I saw that the most commonly cited drawbacks were “too hard” followed by the much less common “too soft,” “develops cavity,” and “squeaks.”
VIII. Trial Period, Warranty, Pricing and Sizes
Like most mattresses available today, the Amerisleep AS2 comes with protective policies and in a range of bed sizes.
Mattress Sleep Trial Period
I’m pleased Amerisleep offers customers a 100-night risk-free trial to truly evaluate if the AS2 works for you. In my experience reviewing and testing mattresses, this is in line with the standard industry norm of three or more months to test a mattress.
Compared to some online mattress companies like Nolah that offer a 120-night trial, Amerisleep’s 100-night trial is slightly shorter. However, regardless of the specific number of nights, all of these companies provide ample time to assess whether the mattress meets your unique comfort preferences and support needs.
Being able to test a mattress is crucial because it allows individuals to assess firsthand how well the mattress aligns with their comfort preferences and sleeping needs, particularly when purchasing online mattresses. Testing provides a tangible experience, helping customers evaluate factors like firmness, support, and overall comfort.
If the Amerisleep AS2 is not the perfect match, they’ll arrange a full refund. Their customer service team has been highly reputable for handling the process promptly and hassle-free.
Mattress Warranty
Amerisleep’s exceptional 20-year warranty also safeguards against defects like sagging greater than an inch. A mattress warranty is essential as it serves as a safeguard against potential defects or premature wear, providing consumers with confidence in their investment.
Amerisleep’s 20-year warranty is significantly longer than the 10-15 year warranties offered by many competitors, including Helix, Brooklyn Bedding, Vaya, and Zoma. This extensive coverage demonstrates Amerisleep’s strong confidence in the AS2’s premium quality and construction.
A warranty reflects the manufacturer’s commitment to the durability and quality of their product. A comprehensive warranty not only protects the buyer from unexpected issues but also offers peace of mind, ensuring that the mattress will maintain its performance over an extended period.
Amerisleep demonstrates their full confidence in the AS2 model by offering a warranty that’s ten years longer than the industry standard mattress warranty of 10 years.
Customer Service and Delivery
Amerisleep is known for its exceptional customer service, with a dedicated team ready to assist you throughout the purchasing process and beyond. Their customer support is responsive and helpful, with an average query resolution time of under 24 hours.
When it comes to delivery, Amerisleep strives to provide a seamless and efficient experience. Most customers receive their AS3 Hybrid mattress within 7-10 business days from the date of order, ensuring a quick and convenient setup process.
Mattress Sizes
Available in all standard mattress sizes from twin to split king, this range of options ensures a proper fit and ideal comfort no matter your sleep space size and personal needs. Carefully assessing your requirements helps select the ideal dimensions for your new AS2.
Mattress Price and Comparisons
The AS2 is very reasonably priced compared to similar premium memory foam options. For example, it’s less than Saatva’s Loom & Leaf mattress, another high-quality medium-firm memory foam mattress, and only a little bit more expensive than the thinner Bear Original mattress.
You can see a comparison of popular medium-firm mattresses, including the Amerisleep AS2, below:
Mattress Model | Mattress Type | Price (Queen) | Mattress Thickness | Mattress Firmness |
---|---|---|---|---|
Amerisleep AS2 | Memory Foam | $1,099 | 12 Inches | Medium-Firm (7 out of 10) |
Bear Original | Memory Foam | $998 or $1,198 | 10 Inches | Medium-Firm (7 out of 10) |
Saatva Loom & Leaf | Memory Foam | $2,395 | 12 Inches | Relaxed Firm (5 to 7 out of 10) |
Zoma Start | Memory Foam | $749 | 10 Inches | Medium-Firm (6 out of 10) |
Nectar Mattress | Memory Foam | $1,099 or $1,198 | 12 Inches | Medium-Firm (6.5 out of 10) |
While costing more than basic foam mattress options, such as the Vaya Mattress and other budget mattresses, I found the innovative construction and comforting night’s sleep worth the investment.
Reviewers seem to agree with me, as most indicated they were “mid-range shoppers” followed by “budget shoppers,” according to the review section’s filter options. Amerisleep also offers financing options, ensuring the mattress is more accessible to those on tight home budget.
Overall, the price tag seems to be in line with the average price point of a memory foam mattress in a box, and its innovative four-layer memory foam design with advanced cooling justifies the investment for many shoppers. Affordable payment plans can be arranged through Amerisleep’s financing partner if needed.

IX. Customer Reviews
I always survey reviews from verified customers to corroborate my own assessments. Scouring through customer experiences, the overwhelming majority of AS2 reviews are glowing 5-star appraisals. Many share stories of this mattress eliminating persistent back aches or chronic neck pain and finally getting restful sleep without discomfort.
As I mentioned earlier, the review section of Amerisleep starts by presenting a thoughtfully curated list of advantages and disadvantages, according to consumer feedback expressed through reviews. For the Amerisleep AS2, the top benefits were “good support,” “comfortable,” “holds shape,” “durable,” and “soft feel.”
One customer in particular claims the mattress “worked miracles” on their sciatica while several others report no more tossing and turning while being properly aligned.
Here are what more satisfied reviewers had to say:
- Lesleybian highlights the unique comfort of the mattress, emphasizing how it’s only one she can sleep on without experiencing pain. A side sleeper dealing with serious back pain, Lesleybian notes she is “a big woman” who shares the bed with her 14-pound service dog. While her side of the mattress does have a slight impression from her body, she notes she still experiences 5-out-of-5 comfort.
- Marcos praises the AS2 mattress as one of the best he has used, emphasizing its value. As a 65-year-old, he specifically appreciates the firmer feel of the mattress and appreciates that it maintains its shape well, distinguishing it from other mattresses he has owned in the past.
However, a minority of reviewers report issues from excessive firmness. One customer felt it insufficiently cushioned pressure points as a side sleeper.
Another noted that they woke up with lower back pain regularly, and this was particularly unwelcome because of their demanding job. “I am an operating room nurse and to have to wake up to excruciating pain every morning is out of the question.”
Yet another customer, Begie, expressed that the mattress was excellent for alleviating arthritis in the hips but lacked sufficient support for the back. Notably, though, Begie highlighted the excellent customer service received when exchanging for a higher-numbered and softer Amerisleep model.
Thus, it’s extremely important to remember that sleep position and preferred softness levels are key considerations before purchasing.
Some may also feel the mattress isn’t cool enough. For example, Bill switched from an older spring mattress to the AS2 and found it to be a “perfectly good mattress.” Despite his initial discomfort in the hips, which resolved after a few nights, the AS2 effectively alleviated middle back pain.
However, Bill mentioned that the AS2’s heat dissipation is worse than a spring bed, particularly noticeable during a heatwave in 2023. He did note this was possibly exacerbated by high humidity.
After analyzing customer experiences across various sites, I concluded most back and stomach sleepers should achieve restful slumber but those wanting ample cradling may need an alternative model tailored to their sleeping habits and body types.
X. Environmental Impact
From their substantiated materials to their streamlined production, Amerisleep makes ethical and sustainable choices to maintain ecological integrity. Amerisleep’s 360 environmental statement details how they are committed to developing sustainable plant-based foams, a zero-air emissions manufacturing process, and efficient consumer delivery.
Eco-Friendly Foams
I love that Amerisleep pursues eco-friendly mattresses and sustainability, like their plant-based foam production methods that partially substitute petroleum typically used in bedding with renewable castor oil. They also developed a highly efficient direct-to-consumer shipping model to reduce their carbon footprint.
As a bonus, you never have to worry about hazardous materials within their mattresses. All foams used meet CertiPUR-US® standards for minimal emissions and Amerisleep mattresses are fiberglass-free.
The certification ensures that the mattress is made without harmful chemicals, reducing the environmental impact. Additionally, CertiPUR®-certified foams are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), contributing to better indoor air quality and promoting a healthier environment.
Domestic Manufacturing
As I mentioned earlier, their mattresses are made in the U.S., which keeps the environmental impact lower and in greater compliance with regulations and sustainability standards than a mattress made overseas.
More Efficient Shipping
By compressing mattresses into boxes rather than shipping them flat, Amerisleep can fit 3 times more beds on each delivery truck. Using an eco-shipping method like this saves an average of 80% on fuel consumption.
Disposing of the Mattress
When it comes to disposing of your Amerisleep AS2 mattress, options may vary depending on your location. In some areas, mattress recycling programs are available, allowing you to responsibly dispose of your mattress and reduce waste. These programs often disassemble the mattress, separating the various materials like foam, metal springs, and fabric for recycling or repurposing.
If mattress recycling is not available in your area, you may consider donating your mattress to a local charity or thrift store if it is still in good condition. This not only extends the life of the mattress but also helps those in need.
As a last resort, if your mattress is not suitable for donation and recycling is not an option, it may end up in a landfill. However, Amerisleep’s commitment to using eco-friendly materials helps reduce the environmental impact of their mattresses, even in this scenario.
XI. Maintenance and Care
Amerisleep recommends safeguarding your investment using a breathable waterproof mattress protector. While optional, using a mattress protector can further maintain the AS2’s pristine condition. This optional protective layer shields against spills, stains, and other damage-causing accidents. Periodically vacuuming the mattress surface using a soft brush attachment also helps lift away dust and allergens.
A key advantage of the AS2 is it never requires flipping or rotating, preventing excess wear. However, be sure to pair it with a suitable foundation like Amerisleep’s adjustable base or a supportive frame with rigid center support and slats no more than 3 inches apart. Proper support maintains the AS2’s structure, comfort, and 20-year durability.
If you are planning to transport the mattress, carefully lift and carry it vertically to prevent potential tears or damage – preferably with a helper to distribute weight. And should indentation or materials issues arise despite normal use, Amerisleep’s customer service team can guide you through the warranty claim process to address defects.
By adding a mattress protector, using a solid frame, and moving the mattress with care, you can keep your AS2 looking and feeling pristine. Following these simple tips ensures it retains those straight A’s for support, pain relief, and peaceful slumber for the full 20 years.
Final Verdict – Score: 9/10
I rate the Amerisleep AS2 mattress a 9 out of 10 based on its commendable performance across my evaluation criteria. This high-quality cooling mattress delivers on comfort, support, durability, and beyond to earn my wholehearted recommendation.
Starting from the cover through the four ergonomic layers below, Amerisleep designed their AS2 model for cooling relief. I confirmed their claims, as innovative construction technology like the Bio-Pur® foam and breathable cover provide exceptional temperature regulation all night.
Available at a fair price point for a premium mattress with 20-year coverage, Amerisleep offers tremendous value to buyers wanting long-lasting comfort. I would recommend the mattress for:
- Back sleepers
- Stomach sleepers
- Hot sleepers
- People with back pain
Side sleepers, however, may prefer a plusher option.
Still, earning stellar marks for cooling, responsiveness, quality materials, absence of motion transfer, extensive warranty, eco-conscious production, and rave customer feedback, the exceptional Amerisleep AS2 is worthy of its high 9 out of 10 rating.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is the Amerisleep AS2 mattress suitable for side sleepers?
While the Amerisleep AS2 mattress provides excellent support for back and stomach sleepers, its medium-firm feel may not offer enough pressure relief for side sleepers. Side sleepers typically require a softer mattress to allow their hips and shoulders to sink in comfortably.
For side sleepers, Amerisleep offers softer models like the AS3 or AS5, which may be more suitable for their needs.
How well does the AS2 regulate temperature for hot sleepers?
The Amerisleep AS2 mattress excels in temperature regulation, making it an excellent choice for hot sleepers. The Refresh Cover is designed to draw heat away from the body, keeping the sleeping surface cool.
Additionally, the Bio-Pur® comfort layer features an open-cell structure that allows for increased airflow and breathability, preventing heat retention.
What type of foundation or bed frame should I use with the AS2 mattress?
The Amerisleep AS2 mattress is compatible with most bed frames and foundations, including platform beds, slatted bases, and adjustable bases. However, it is essential to ensure that the slats are no more than 3 inches apart to provide adequate support for the mattress. Using a proper foundation will help maintain the AS2’s structure, comfort, and durability throughout its lifespan.
What happens if I don’t like the Amerisleep AS2?
Amerisleep offers a 100-night risk-free trial period for the AS2 mattress, allowing customers to thoroughly test the mattress and ensure it meets their needs. If you find that the mattress is not the perfect match for you, Amerisleep will arrange a full refund and hassle-free return process.
This generous trial period provides peace of mind and allows customers to make an informed decision about their purchase.
