With over 9 years of experience in clinical health services, I know that sleep quality plays a critical role in wellbeing. As a certified sleep coach passionate about holistic health, I evaluate mattresses to provide helpful insights to consumers.
In this review, I’ll share my hands-on assessment of the Amerisleep Organica mattress. My goal is to analyze its construction, performance, policies, and more to help you make an informed decision for your needs.
- Innovative Construction and Sustainable Materials: The Amerisleep Organica mattress impresses with its innovative coil-and-latex hybrid design, featuring organic cotton cover, natural wool, Talalay latex, and pocketed coils. These materials not only provide exceptional comfort but also contribute to sustainability and eco-friendliness, aligning with Amerisleep’s commitment to responsible manufacturing practices.
- Versatile Comfort for Different Sleeping Positions: With its medium firmness level, the Organica mattress caters well to various sleeping positions, particularly side and combination sleepers. The latex and coil layers offer proper support and responsiveness, ensuring comfort and spinal alignment for different sleeping preferences.
- Exceptional Responsiveness and Cooling: The mattress exhibits excellent response time, preventing any feeling of being “trapped” in the bed. Moreover, its cooling and breathability properties, attributed to the natural materials used in its construction, contribute to a cool and dry sleeping environment, enhancing overall comfort.
With these highlights in mind, let’s dive deeper into the construction and materials that make up the Amerisleep Organica mattress.
Our Review Process: Each mattress we review undergoes a rigorous evaluation process. We assess comfort, support, cooling, and durability through both subjective experiences and objective tests.
Criteria include pressure relief, spine alignment, mattress responsiveness, motion transfer, edge support, and temperature regulation. This comprehensive approach ensures our reviews are thorough and unbiased.
I. Mattress Layers, Materials and Construction
I always start reviews by examining a mattress’ materials and layers. The Organica mattress piqued my interest right away with its innovative coil-and-latex hybrid design free from off-gassing odors, though I’ve found that even Amerisleep memory foam mattresses rarely have an off-gassing odor. As soon as I opened the box, it reached full expansion in minutes.
Organic Cotton Cover
The quilted cover features crisp white organic cotton, instantly inviting and soothing against skin. As I pressed down, the plush surface cushioned gently then bounced back rapidly when releasing pressure. Crafted using extra-long staple supple cotton certified by the rigorous Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Amerisleep selected premium harvests to ensure exceptional softness while supporting sustainable agriculture.
Compared to conventional short-staple cotton requiring extensive irrigation and chemical inputs, GOTS-certified cotton reduces environmental impact substantially. Under a magnifying glass, I observed the neatly woven pattern of threads with long slender fibers, which provide a smoother hand feel.
The knitted sides flex and stretch to accommodate the latex and coil layers underneath dynamically. Meanwhile, the durable cross-directional stitching reinforces structural integrity.
As I rubbed the fabric between my fingers, the exceptional breathability and gentle feel became apparent. Lying down and sleeping, and it was clear that any moisture from sweating and such wicked away rapidly, keeping my skin pleasantly dry.
The GOTS-certified organic cotton cover offers a supremely soft, flexible and breathable surface for luxury comfort.
Organic Wool
Beneath the organic cotton quilt lies a supportive layer of OEKO-TEX certified wool for enhanced cushioning comfort, creating a pillowy feel like a cloud. Amerisleep sources wool from humanely raised sheep in New Zealand then transports batches to be cleaned and carded in the United States, aligning with their dedication to sustainable, locally focused manufacturing.
As I gently tugged a sample tuft of wool fiber, I felt how the crimped texture provided natural elasticity and insulation. If I were to look at it under a microscope comparing synthetic alternatives, the wool would contain microscopic air pockets that trap body heat effectively during sleep.
Independent testing also confirms wool’s exceptional moisture-wicking capabilities compared to cotton and other common bedding materials.
Beyond physical performance, the wool contains natural flame retardants meeting safety standards as an effective fire barrier. Lacking harsh chemical treatments or mattress fiberglass used for conventional mattresses, Amerisleep’s thoughtful choice of organic wool boosts safety and luxury simultaneously.
The wool’s springy, breathable presence supplies welcoming comfort and protection right below the organic cotton surface.
Natural Talalay Latex
Serving as the primary comfort layer, responsive Talalay latex forms the mattress core comfort. The natural Talalay latex made the mattress feel very bouncy and breathable. The latex provides excellent pressure relief, outperforming materials like poly foam, as a 2016 study found 1 Verified Source National Library of Medicine (NIH) World’s largest medical library, making biomedical data and information more accessible. See the source .
In the study, people lying on a latex mattress had lower pressure on their bodies compared to those lying on a polyurethane foam mattress. This lower pressure was observed in different sleeping positions such as lying on the front, side, or back. The results suggest that using a latex mattress could lead to better sleep comfort and quality because it reduces pressure points on the body.
Pocketed Coils
The base support layer features pocketed coils. I appreciated the reinforced coils wrapping the edges to limit sinkage and reinforce support when getting in and out of bed. With thoughtful selections ideal for a healthy sleep space, I was eager to evaluate the bed further.
Having examined the innovative design and premium materials used in the Organica, it’s crucial to understand how these elements come together to provide an optimal sleep experience for different sleeping styles.
II. Sleeping Positions
Understanding how the Amerisleep Organica caters to individuals in various sleeping positions was a key objective during testing. With medium firmness, I’d say it accommodates most preferences nicely but it might be best for side and combination sleepers.
However, the firmness range exemplified by Amerisleep’s memory foam mattresses, along with advanced comfort technologies like zoned support, may suit other positions better.
Side Sleeping
The Amerisleep Organica is an excellent choice as a mattress for side sleepers. The medium firmness and contouring latex layers provide essential pressure relief to prevent pain at key side sleeper hot spots like the shoulders and hips.
I usually sleep on my side, and while doing so on the Amerisleep Organica, I felt proper support without any discomfort. The conforming latex layers filled spaces at the shoulder and hips, while the coils ensured I never felt as if I was sinking too far into the mattress.
Still, it’s not the plushest mattress on the market, which many side sleepers seek. They may want a mattress like the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid, or a soft mattress topper to roll across the surface of the Organica.
Back Sleeping
For back sleepers, the Organica offers a balance of comfort and support. The quilted organic cotton cover and natural latex comfort layer provide cushioning and conforming for the lumbar spine.
During my evaluation, these upper layers filled in my lower back area, providing relief for the subtle gap that can occur between the body and sleep surface in this position.
Meanwhile, the pocketed coil support core delivered the critical pushback needed to prevent excessive sinkage and maintain proper spine alignment. Most back sleepers should find the Organica keeps their spine in a neutral position.
Stomach Sleeping
Of all sleep positions, the Amerisleep Organica is least suitable for strict stomach sleepers who typically need a firmer mattress to keep their hips from sinking in and putting strain on the spine.
During my time testing the mattress in this position, I felt my hips dip slightly more than ideal when stomach sleeping. This could lead to back pain over time for those who exclusively sleep in this position. However, for occasional stomach sleepers or those who alternate between their stomach and other positions, the Organica should provide adequate support.
If you’re primarily a stomach sleeper but drawn to the Organica’s other features, you can make it work by adding a firm mattress topper. This will create a sturdier, more stable surface to keep your spine aligned in a stomach sleeping position.
Combination Sleepers
The Amerisleep Organica shines for combination sleepers thanks to its responsiveness. When rolling from my back to side and vice versa, the surface adapted quickly to my movements without any stuck or trapped sensation.
The medium feel strikes a nice middle ground between the plushness side sleepers need and the firmer support ideal for back and stomach sleepers, making it a good balanced choice if you alternate between all three positions.
The breathable cotton cover and naturally moisture-wicking wool and latex layers also contributed to a cool, dry sleep experience when testing the bed. I never felt sweaty or clammy, even when changing positions frequently, which combination sleepers will appreciate since they tend to generate more heat with their movement.
The buoyant latex and springy coils facilitated effortless position changes, which is crucial for combination sleepers who shift throughout the night. In addition to accommodating various sleeping positions, another essential aspect of a mattress’s performance is its responsiveness, which directly impacts sleep quality and comfort.
III. Response Time
One benefit of latex construction is exceptional responsiveness that prevents “trapped” feelings some experience on memory foam. A responsive mattress is important because it makes it easier to change positions during the night.
Throughout the night, our bodies may change positions as we transition between sleeping on our sides, backs, or stomachs. A responsive mattress dynamically adjusts to these changes, ensuring consistent support and pressure relief regardless of sleeping position.
When lying on the mattress, areas such as the shoulders, hips, and heels may experience increased pressure due to their protruding nature. A responsive mattress responds to these pressure points by gently contouring to the body.
Whether shifting from side to side or getting in and out of bed, a mattress that responds quickly to movements ensures a smoother and more comfortable sleep experience.
To evaluate the response time of the Amerisleep Organica, I challenged the mattress with several rounds of dropped 10-pound weights onto the surface. I watched them rebound instantly before settling, which demonstrates precisely how the bed avoids latency or lag time adjusting to shifts in position or weight distribution.
I prefer this test to the glass of water test readers may have seen elsewhere, as it’s a practical extension of how the mattress is intended to be used.
With this supportive push-back keeping you rested atop the mattress instead of uncomfortably immersed, Amerisleep Organica earns a perfect response time score of 10/10! For couples with different preferences, this adaptability helps when compromising on mattress firmness. Reinforced edges also provide ample real estate for those sharing a queen or king.
While responsiveness is vital, it’s equally important to consider other factors that contribute to an undisturbed sleep, especially for couples or those who frequently change positions throughout the night.
IV. Motion Transfer and Edge Support
Two other performance metrics crucial for couples are motion transfer and edge support. Nobody enjoys a sleep space with obvious dips or the feeling of being rocked by a partner’s nighttime movements.
Motion Transfer
When sharing a bed with a partner, especially if they have different sleep schedules or habits, disturbances from their movements can disrupt one’s sleep. Mattresses with motion isolation helps ensure that each person can rest peacefully without being jostled awake by the other’s movements.
Proper motion isolation also may indicate better support and stability within the mattress. A mattress with good motion isolation tends to have consistent firmness and contouring, providing adequate support to the sleeper’s body without compromising comfort.
In my motion transfer test with weights dropping to represent sleeper activity, the bed isolated horizontal shifts very well. The structure and materials absorbed extra motion before it could travel widely across the surface.
With such limited disturbances, couples can prevent disrupting each other’s sleep when getting in and out of bed or changing positions. For these strong results, I rate the Amerisleep Organica a 9/10 in the motion transfer test.
Edge Support
Strong edge support provides a stable foundation for sitting on the edge of the mattress, whether it’s for putting on shoes, reading, or other activities. It prevents excessive compression and sinking, making these tasks easier and more comfortable.
Furthermore, a mattress with strong edge support allows you to utilize the full surface area of the bed, including the edges. This means you can sleep comfortably right up to the edge without feeling like you might roll off or sink excessively.
In other words, mattress edge support effectively expands the usable sleeping space, which can be particularly important for couples sharing a bed or for individuals who prefer sleeping closer to the edge.
Additionally, solid edge support can assist individuals in getting in and out of bed safely, especially for those with mobility issues or limited mobility. It’s a crucial element when it comes to mattresses for seniors or for medical conditions like arthritis.
Here’s where I noticed a drawback in the Amerisleep Organica. Namely, there was noticeable softness in the edge support as I sat near the perimeter. Compression increased as my weight shifted outside the reinforced coil border in the mattress core.
I give the mattress edge support a score of 8/10 since the dipping wasn’t extreme but still evident during testing. Couples seeking ample surface areas can utilize the entire top comfortably but might sink if using max capacity near the edges.
Good edge support helps maintain the structural integrity of the mattress over time. It prevents sagging or indentations from forming along the edges, which can occur with weaker support. This not only prolongs the lifespan of the mattress but also ensures consistent comfort and support throughout its use.
Alongside motion isolation and edge support, temperature regulation is another key consideration when evaluating a mattress, as it can significantly impact sleep quality and overall comfort levels.
V. Cooling and Breathability
Proper cooling and breathability help prevent sleeping hot or night sweats. Latex and cotton contain naturally thermo-regulating properties to help maintain an ideal comfort level year-round. I felt the Amerisleep Organica mattress slept incredibly cool and dry thanks to its materials and construction allowing ample airflow.
Competitor models with special covers can feel cold to enhance cooling effects, but the Organica struck an excellent balance staying breezy yet still cozy. For these reasons, I award a 9/10 for overall cooling capabilities.
This is still an above-average score and is more than satisfactory for the average hot sleeper. However, if you need a 10-out-of-10 flawless score for pure cooling comfort, there are other models I’ve tested that have achieved this score:
With the performance attributes discussed so far, it’s also essential to consider the long-term durability and longevity of the Amerisleep Organica mattress, as these factors directly impact the overall value proposition.
VI. Durability and Longevity
Considering this mattress ships for free right to your door in an accessible box, its quality materials and reliable performance continue shining once unboxed. Amerisleep offers a 20-year warranty covering sagging and manufacturing defects to back the lasting durability expected throughout decades of ownership.
The use of natural Talalay latex foam in the comfort layer contributes significantly to the mattress’s overall durability. Latex is known for its resilience and ability to withstand compression over time, making it less prone to premature sagging or indentations compared to traditional polyurethane foams.
Moreover, the individually wrapped coils are less likely to shift or become misaligned over time, reducing the risk of sagging or body impressions in high-pressure areas.
The organic cotton cover also plays a role in extending the mattress’s lifespan. The long-staple fibers used in the cover provide added strength and resistance to tearing or fraying, ensuring the cover remains intact and protective for years to come.
Without toxic adhesives or low-grade foams, I foresee many restful years ahead for the Organica. Its sturdy craftsmanship and protective handling policies set owners up for success.
VII. Potential Drawbacks
Although I definitely recommend the Amerisleep Organica to prospective buyers, weighing some differentiating characteristics can help match shoppers to the best models for their circumstances and priorities.
For example, its above-average height of 13 inches may be a turn-off. Buyers focused purely on affordability or seeking popular all-foam beds will likely keep looking rather than select this crossover model.
Bouncy Feel
The Organica’s latex layers and coil support core create a distinctly bouncy, responsive feel. This may be an adjustment for sleepers accustomed to the deep, slower-rebounding sink of memory foam mattresses. The bounciness could feel unfamiliar or even disruptive, particularly for those who have slept on memory foam for years and grown used to its signature “hug.”
If you’re a fan of memory foam’s body-contouring embrace and struggle with joint pain, the Organica’s springier surface may not provide the same level of pressure relief you’re used to. Its buoyancy could put more stress on sensitive areas.
This doesn’t mean the Organica is uncomfortable, but it’s a feel factor to consider if you strongly prefer a melting-into-the-bed sensation.
Mattress Firmness
The Organica comes in a medium firmness, which suits most sleepers but isn’t ideal for everyone. Its latex construction means it doesn’t offer the deep plushness some sleepers need for optimal pressure relief. Likewise, it may not be firm enough for strict stomach sleepers or back sleepers who need extra lumbar support.
Your sleep position and body type significantly influence your firmness needs. Side sleepers often need a softer mattress to cushion pressure points, while stomach sleepers require a firmer bed to prevent spine-straining hip sink. The Organica’s medium feel is a middle ground, but it can’t perfectly meet the needs of these opposite ends of the firmness spectrum.
If you know you need an ultra-plush or extra-firm feel based on your physique and sleep style, the Organica may not be your best choice.
Lacks Ultra Coolness
While the Organica’s breathable natural materials help regulate temperature, it doesn’t have the cutting-edge cooling technologies found in some competitors. Such as the phase change material in the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Hybrid or the heat-dissipating ArcticTex fibers in the Nolah Evolution 15.
This doesn’t make the Organica a heat trap, but if staying icy cool is your top priority, explore options engineered for that purpose. If you’re an exceptionally hot sleeper or dealing with night sweats, you may find the Organica merely temperature neutral rather than actively cooling.
Mattress Price Tag
The Organica’s premium materials and construction place it at a higher price point than many online mattresses. While it offers excellent value for a latex hybrid, it may exceed some shoppers’ budgets.
Deciding if the Organica is worth its cost depends on your priorities. Its durability and eco-friendly materials offer long-term value. However, if you’re on a strict budget or only need a mattress for short-term/guest use, you may get more for your money with a lower-priced basic foam model.
Price is relative, but the Organica is undeniably an investment, so reflect on whether its unique benefits justify the expense for your needs.
Mattress Noise Level
While not mentioned as a major drawback, some sleepers may be sensitive to noise from the Amerisleep Organica mattress, particularly due to the pocketed coil layer. However, it’s important to note that squeaky coils or excessive noise are usually associated with older, worn-out mattresses or those constructed with low-quality materials.
The Amerisleep Organica is a premium mattress that uses high-quality pocketed coils designed to minimize noise. Most users are unlikely to experience significant noise issues with this mattress, especially in the first few years of use.
Nevertheless, for sleepers who are particularly sensitive to noise, I advise testing the mattress in an Amerisleep showroom or take advantage of the company’s sleep trial period to ensure the noise level meets your expectations.
VIII. Policies and Prices Overview
Amerisleep ships the Organica model in all seven standard mattress sizes. Ranging from twin to California king dimensions, they cater to children’s rooms, guest spaces, and master suites alike.
I found its value pricing very reasonable considering competitors with similar latex beds cost much more. Additional perks enhancing ownership experience include:
- 100-Night Trial: This gives your body over three months to adjust before finalizing the decision.
- 20-Year Warranty: Offsets costs long-term by covering replacement for qualifying defects for two decades.
- Affordable Financing: Through partner Klarna, offers flexible payment plan options.
If questioning whether a mattress suits your preferences, trying it out risk-free for months allows ample evaluation before fully committing.

IX. Customer Reviews
Beyond the expert testing and analysis I provide evaluating mattresses like Amerisleep’s Organica model, consumer experiences offer further validation when assessing ultimate satisfaction sleeping on a particular bed. Reviews share how the mattress performs for a variety of body types and preferences.
Across dozens of Organica reviews, most seem enamored from the start thanks to the eco-friendly, responsiveness attributes. Couples praise the motion isolation while single reviewers love the pressure relief and temperature regulation properties allowing sound slumber.
However no model receives unanimous praise. I did notice one reviewer felt the latex layers felt too similar to conventional foam beds unlike the distinctive buoyant feel typically expected from latex mattresses.
- Reviewer Diymom derisively says their “old mattress was like a plank,” noting she and her husband would wake up with aches and pains from being unable to find a comfortable position on the mattress. After replacing their previous bad bed with the Organica, Diymom found herself waking up free of aches and pains within the first few nights. “My bed is my favorite and most comfortable place to be,” she confessed. She also finds it easier than ever to get out of bed, with the surface conforming to her body’s movements as she pushes off the side.
Considering the overall 4.9/5 star rating based predominantly on reviews with perfect ratings though, most agree the quality craftsmanship and exclusivity of purchasing a luxury latex bed direct-to-consumer make sleeping on the Organica well worth the investment.
X. Environmental Impact
With such intimate closeness to our mattresses each night, I applaud Amerisleep’s commitment to eco-conscious design choices like responsibly sourced organic cotton, wool, latex and low-emissions production methods.
From diminishing chemical footprint compared to synthetic blends to efficient direct shipping, the company reduces environmental impact substantially compared to conventional mattress manufacturing.
Material Certifications
The GOTS, RainForest Alliance and OEKO-TEX certifications validate Amerisleep’s claims of premium quality with a lighter footprint for greener sleep. Let’s look at each of these certifications in more depth:
- A Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification ensures that textile products meet stringent organic and social criteria throughout their entire production process. GOTS emphasizes environmentally sustainable practices, from raw material cultivation to the final product, ensuring that textiles are produced with organic fibers and meet social responsibility standards.
- Rainforest Alliance approval signifies that a product or business meets rigorous sustainability standards, particularly in terms of environmental conservation, social responsibility, and economic viability. They emphasize ethical and environmentally friendly practices. It’s a valuable indicator for consumers seeking products that prioritize biodiversity, fair labor practices, and the well-being of communities and ecosystems.
- OEKO-TEX certification assures consumers that a textile has been tested and verified to be free from harmful substances. This certification focuses on ensuring that textiles are safe for human health and have minimal impact on the environment. Products with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 label meet strict criteria, as the textiles undergo comprehensive testing for harmful substances
By supporting sustainable agriculture and materials innovation, the Organica mattress benefits human health and ecological integrity simultaneously.
360 Green Commitment
This high concentration of natural materials is already in addition to Amerisleep’s impressive 360 green commitment to being environmentally friendly. Along with their innovative eco-friendly memory foam, Bio-Pur, and their zero-air emissions manufacturing process, they also work to deliver their mattresses most efficiently.
Namely, by compressing their mattresses into easily stacked boxes that take up less room in a delivery truck than mattresses laid flat.
Prioritizing the delivery efficiency of mattresses in a box minimizes the company’s carbon footprint and ensures they can serve a wide range of customers. In the space that a flat mattress would take up, Amerisleep can pack three boxes, greatly saving on fuel for deliveries.
For consumers sharing their ethics and supporting conscientious brands going green for future generations, Amerisleep delivers an all-around winner.
XI. Care and Maintenance
Caring properly for the Amerisleep Organica mattress ensures it lasts in tip-top shape for years to come. I suggest using their breathable waterproof mattress protector to defend against spills and body impressions sinking into the plush comfort layers.
If you’re planning to spot clean mattress stains as they happen, apply light dish soap and water gently to avoid soaking deep below the surface.
Rotating the mattress head-to-foot every six months balances your weight distribution stopping stubborn sagging in frequently compressed areas. Along with washing linens to keep the mattress fresh, following these best practices enhances longevity, performance, and owner satisfaction over the full lifetime.
XII. Conclusion
If seeking an eco-conscious hybrid model from an established bed-in-a-box brand name, the Amerisleep Organica Mattress supplies responsive support perfect for combination sleepers, couples with mismatched comfort needs, or those wanting reliable pressure relief without membranes of temperature-trapping memory foam.
Its quality build, extensive trial window, and durable lifespan deliver lasting value supported by glowing customer reviews. For shoppers willing to accept moderate edge support and significant bounce typical of latex beds, I wholeheartedly recommend the Amerisleep Organica earning an impressive final score of 9/10.
