Amerisleep vs. Nectar Mattress Reviews

Mattress Comparison
Read Time: 8 minutes

Everybody knows shopping for a new mattress isn’t necessarily easy, but with more and more brands emerging in the bedding industry, choosing the best mattress for your needs is increasingly difficult.

While reading mattress comparisons and choosing which bed sounds most appealing is part of the search, you can’t forget to consider your own personal sleep style and preferences, as well. Stomach sleepers require different support than back sleepers, and body type impacts the perception of firmness. Taking time to reflect upon how you sleep, what pain points you experience, and how you’d like your new bed to feel steers you towards the most fitting option.

To make your search easier, we’ve put together this review guide, discussing both Amerisleep and Nectar mattresses at length, to help you decide if one of their beds is right for you.

Amerisleep Mattresses

amerisleep as3 best memory foam mattress

Amerisleep entered the foam mattress market in 2007. Since then, they’ve created their own patented technologies to improve comfort. There are a few brick and mortar stores where you can test their mattresses for yourself. Their mattresses can also be shipped directly to your door, mattress-in-a-box style. Amerisleep also sells a range of sleep-related products for better all-around sleep comfort, such as an adjustable frame, which works with all of their mattresses.

Amerisleep’s five models range from firm to soft:

  • Amerisleep AS1: Amerisleep’s most basic model only has two layers of foam. However, it provides excellent support and conforming for back and stomach sleepers, specifically those who prefer a firmer mattress.
  • Amerisleep AS2: This three-layer design has an added transition layer that makes it softer than the AS1. Amerisleep markets this as their medium-firm mattress. Due to its firm feel and HIVE® technology, the AS2 is Amerisleep’s best mattress for back pain relief.
  • Amerisleep AS3: The AS3 is Amerisleep’s best mattress for side sleepers, combination sleepers, and couples with varying sleep styles. The combination of layers balance support and cushioning to create Amerisleep’s most popular and versatile model.
  • Amerisleep AS4: For those who need an extremely conforming and soft comfort layer, the AS4 is an excellent choice. Its thicker comfort layer has added softness for lightweight or sensitive sleepers. The AS4 is suitable for side and back sleepers who prefer a soft bed, but is not supportive enough for stomach sleepers.
  • Amerisleep AS5: The softest of the Amerisleep models has an additional Active Flex layer. It beautifully conforms to the body but doesn’t leave you trapped in hot foam.

Amerisleep Mattress Materials

Amerisleep’s cover boosts deeper, cooler sleep. This lightweight, breathable fabric promotes airflow through the mattress so body heat doesn’t become trapped.  The cover is also removable and machine-washable.

The AS1, Amerisleep’s firmest model, contains one inch of Bio-Pur®, an advanced open-cell memory foam. Open-cell structures promote better airflow. This advanced structure takes breathability and temperature regulation to the next level by maximizing airflow without losing support or strength. Supporting the Bio-Pur® is a dense, eight-inch Bio-Core® layer, designed to provide support while enhancing breathability.

The AS2 also has a two-inch Bio-Pur® comfort layer. Between the Bio-Pur® and Bio-Core® layers sits a three-inch Affinity layer with HIVE® technology (Harnessing Intelligent Ventilation & Energy). Hexagonal cutouts cover the surface of HIVE® to increase airflow and allow for deeper compression. These cutouts are spread farther apart at the shoulders and hips for added pressure relief. At the head, back, and feet, they’re closer together for extra support. The Affinity layer gives the mattresses a softer, more conforming feel than the AS1.

The AS3 is a medium mattress with the same HIVE® and Bio-Pur® technologies as the other Amerisleep models. However, in comparison to the AS2, the thicker Bio-Pur® layer and thinner Affinity layer create a slightly softer, medium mattress.

The AS4 has the same thick Bio-Pur® top layer as the AS3. The Affinity layer also has HIVE® technology to provide zoned comfort at the shoulders and hips. A seven-inch Bio-Core® support core brings stability with excellent conformity.

Amerisleep’s only four-layer mattress is also its softest. The AS5 has Bio-Pur®, Bio-Core®, and Affinity layers like the other models; however, it has an added Active Flex layer to prevent too much sinkage. Active Flex makes sure the foam “bounces back” into place so you don’t feel stuck while you sleep. Due to the inclusion of this responsive layer, the AS5 is Amerisleep’s best mattress for heavy sleepers.

Amerisleep’s Temperature-Regulating Technologies

Temperature regulation and breathability are incredibly important for memory foam mattresses. Memory foam can trap heat because of its construction and density. If your mattress traps heat, you may wake up during the night due to discomfort. Many companies have begun incorporating cooling technologies to address this issue.  Many of Amerisleep’s technologies, Bio-Pur® Bio-Core®, and Affinity layers, are designed to regulate temperature and increase breathability. Compared to most memory foam mattresses, their mattresses have above-average breathability.

Amerisleep’s Support, Conformability, and Motion Isolation

With mattresses, support refers to how well the mattress keeps the spine aligned. Unnatural curving of the spine can cause aches and pains over time. Of course, conforming has to do with how well the mattress shapes to the curves of the body. Some foam mattresses closely hug the body. That’s comfortable for some people but too warm for others. A mattress with good motion isolation absorbs rather than transfers movement—an important characteristic for those who share a bed with a partner.

Amerisleep mattresses lack edge support, so users may feel they are falling off the bed if they sit on its edge. Many foam mattresses sink at the edges because of the conforming structure of the foam; this can make getting in and out of bed more difficult.

All of Amerisleep’s models isolate motion  incredibly well. If a restless partner keeps you awake, one of their mattresses will help.

Amerisleep’s Durability and Longevity

Durability depends on the quality of the materials and construction. The warranty length reveals how long the company expects their mattresses to last. Keep in mind that sleeper weight influences how long a bed will last, as well. The heavier you are, the faster the mattress breaks down.

Amersleep’s warranty covers indentations  over 3/4 of an inch deep—most companies only cover indentations 1 inch deep or more. A two-decade warranty, high-quality materials, and eco-friendly practices give these mattresses a longer than average lifespan for a foam mattress. A well-maintained Amerisleep mattress should last around 8-10 years.

Amerisleep’s Sleep Trial, Warranty, and Return Policies

Amerisleep has a 100-day sleep trial. They suggest sleeping on the mattress for 30 days before initiating a return. If you decide to return it after this period, Amerisleep will arrange for a full refund.

Their mattresses are backed by an extended 20-year, prorated warranty that’s broken into two parts. Structural defects qualify for repair or replacement in the first ten years. In the second ten years, defects qualify for a replacement mattress at 50 percent of the original mattress’s purchase price. Included with the warranty is one of the best indentation policies on the market. These mattresses will be replaced if indentations greater than 3/4 of an inch develop.

There is a detailed list as to what is and is not a defect. The limitations include such things as burns, tears, or stains. Amerisleep reserves the right to refuse to repair or replace an unsanitary mattress. Warranty claims require proof of purchase. The mattress must also be kept on a proper foundation as defined in the warranty. Amerisleep may require proof before a repair or refund is issued. The warranty only applies to the original purchaser along with proof of purchase.

Amerisleep’s Social Responsibility

Amerisleep uses plant-based materials and eco-friendly packaging and shipping processes. Their practices and policies reduce the use of petroleum-based products. And all of their mattresses are made without fiberglass.

Who Are Amerisleep Mattresses For?

Amerisleep provides a wide range of luxury mattresses. That many options can appeal to people of many sleep styles. The AS1 and AS2 support back and stomach sleepers seeking a firm bed. The AS4 and AS5 make up Amerisleep’s “soft” collection and are suited for sleepers seeking a plush bed, or heavy sleepers looking for a mattress with a cloud-like feel. The AS3 catches everyone in between, including couples who can’t decide on one mattress firmness. Amerisleep’s mattresses also have excellent motion isolation. If you’re looking for a luxury foam mattress that’s tailored to your size and sleep preferences, you’re likely to find one with Amerisleep.

Nectar Mattresses

Nectar is one of the best mattress in a box brands, having only been on the market since 2017. However, their pricing and quality have pushed them into the spotlight. Their mattress is one of the most affordable foam mattress models available.

Nectar offers more than just mattresses. They also sell several bases, including an adjustable frame, bedding, and weighted blankets.

Nectar’s only mattress has three foam layers with good support and less sinkage than other memory foam mattresses.

Nectar Mattress Materials

Like Amerisleep, Nectar takes on temperature regulation with their cover. It’s made of a cooling fabric that’s quilted to gel memory foam, which adds conforming without increasing sinkage. The comfort layer is also made of gel memory foam to enhance cooling and conforming. The transition layer has an adaptive hi-core memory foam that conforms while adding support. Channels mark the final support layer to increase breathability.

Nectar’s foams are CertiPUR-US® certified. That means they are free of harmful substances such as PBDEs, mercury, and lead.

Nectar’s Temperature-Regulating Technologies

Nectar’s cover with its attached gel-infused memory foam and comfort layer offer good breathability and temperature regulation, especially for a mattress that falls between $600 to $700 for a queen model. The added channels in the support core further keep the air moving. Overall, the Nectar is one of the better foam mattresses because of its above-average temperature regulation and breathability.

Nectar’s Support, Conformability, and Motion Isolation

The Nectar is a medium-firm mattress, which appeals to a broad range of sleepers. However, heavy and lightweight sleepers may find a lack of support or cushioning. There is some decompression at the edges, but it has better edge support than similar models.

For light and heavyweight sleepers, comfort will depend on your sleep style. This mattress conforms well but sinks less than many other foam mattresses, which prevents heat buildup.

Nectar’s Durability and Longevity

Nectar’s mattresses are quite durable thanks to the density and quality of their foams. Nectar’s lifetime warranty protects your purchase for as long as you have the bed. A lifetime warranty suggests that the manufacturer expects the bed to last longer than average.

Nectar’s Sleep Trial, Warranty, and Return Policies

Nectar has one of the longest sleep trials on the market. You get a full 365 nights to determine if you want to keep the mattress. However, there is a mandatory 30-day breaking in period before the mattress can be returned. Nectar covers shipping and handling if the mattress is returned within the trial period.

Nectar’s “forever warranty” is a lifetime warranty that’s broken into two periods. In the first ten years, a mattress with defective workmanship or components will be replaced at Nectar’s expense. After that, if the mattress is deemed defective it will be replaced or repaired. In some cases, the owner may have to pay a $100 transportation fee.

For the warranty to be valid, the mattress has to be used on a suitable foundation as defined in the warranty. It includes a replacement mattress for indentations over 1 ½ inches that are not related to misuse or improper support. There are other limitations listed in the warranty, including purchasing directly from Nectar’s website. The warranty only applies to the original owner.

Nectar’s Social Responsibility

The foams used in the Nectar are all CertiPUR-US® certified. That means they’ve been independently tested and passed as free of chemicals like PBDE flame retardants, formaldehyde, and VOCs.

However, Nectar mattresses do contain fiberglass, which can cause breathing issues and digestive problems if the material escapes the mattress.

Who Are Nectar Mattresses For?

Their single model may not work for everyone, but it’s a good entry-level mattress that will last. Generally, back sleepers of all weights find it more comfortable than side or stomach sleepers. It’s comfortable, cooling, and limits conforming for those who don’t like to sink into the mattress. It also comes with a lifetime warranty for the original owner.

Amerisleep vs. Nectar: The Bottom Line

  • Amerisleep brings more options to the table. Sleepers of all sizes and sleep styles can find a mattress that offers support and comfort.
  • Their indentation policy beats almost every other foam mattress on the market.
  • Nectar is the affordable choice. You’ll still get comfort, but it may not be quite as tailored to your specific needs.
  • Nectar’s lifetime warranty bumps up the value, but it’s countered with Amerisleep’s ¾-inch indentation replacement policy.

Choosing a mattress is highly personal. Trial periods are a great way to test and make sure you’ve found the best mattress for you. It’s worth taking the time to compare and test. After all, you’ll spend nearly one-third of your life on your mattress. Your sleep and health should get the best of the best.

Overview

Amerisleep is a one-stop-shop for memory foam mattresses. Their five models range in support from firm to soft with different levels of conformity. Amerisleep’s models are considered to be “luxury” because they contain multiple high-quality materials and an FDA-determined textile cover. Despite their luxurious status, these beds are still offered at affordable prices.

Nectar has a single model that’s meant to appeal to a broad range of sleepers. This company caters to entry-level buyers who want comfort at an affordable price. With only one model, they are more limited in who they accommodate. However, it’s a good deal for back sleepers.
