Naturepedic EOS Classic Organic Mattress Review
Disclosure by Kristina Hindes: The Naturepedic EOS Classic Organic Mattress was provided to me free of charge for the purpose of this review. However, all opinions expressed in this article are my own and based on my personal experience with the mattress.
As a certified sleep science coach and dedicated mattress reviewer, Kristina understands that choosing the right mattress goes far beyond simple comfort—it’s about finding a sleep surface that supports your health, aligns with your values, and provides lasting value.
When Naturepedic sent Kristina their EOS Classic mattress for testing, I was particularly intrigued by its customizable design and organic materials, elements that set it apart in an increasingly crowded mattress market.
Throughout my extensive testing period, I subjected this mattress to a rigorous evaluation process, combining objective measurements with real-world sleep experience. My background in sleep science guided my methodology, while my practical experience as a mother of two helped me understand how this mattress might perform in a real family setting.
What immediately struck me about the EOS Classic was its unique approach to customization. Unlike traditional mattresses that come with a fixed feel, this model arrives in multiple components that can be arranged to create your ideal sleep surface.
During my testing, I experimented with different layer configurations to understand how this customization affects real-world comfort and support.
My evaluation covered every aspect of mattress performance: support in different sleep positions, temperature regulation, edge support, motion isolation, and durability. I also paid particular attention to the organic materials and construction methods, as these are key differentiators for Naturepedic. Each test was designed to replicate real-world usage while providing measurable, comparable results.
In the following sections, I’ll share my detailed findings across each performance category, including both the impressive features and the areas where improvements could be made.
Whether you’re specifically interested in organic mattresses, looking for a customizable sleep solution, or simply wanting to make an informed purchase decision, this review will help you understand if the Naturepedic EOS Classic is the right choice for your needs.

Our Review Process: Each mattress we review undergoes a rigorous evaluation process. We assess comfort, support, cooling, and durability through both subjective experiences and objective tests.
Criteria include pressure relief, spine alignment, mattress responsiveness, motion transfer, edge support, and temperature regulation. This comprehensive approach ensures our reviews are thorough and unbiased.
I. Mattress Layers, Materials, and Construction
The materials used in this mattress are all-natural and organic, which means they’re better for both you and the environment. Instead of using artificial materials that might contain chemicals, Naturepedic EOS Classic Organic uses things like cotton from organic farms, natural latex from rubber trees, and wool from properly cared-for sheep.
When you first open the mattress, it smells fresh and clean, like cotton hanging on a clothesline, instead of having that strong chemical smell many new mattresses have.
Starting from the outside is the mattress encasement. It’s made with organic cotton fabric and fill, sealed with a solid brass zipper.
When I touched it, the fabric felt sturdy yet soft, and I could tell it was designed to last. This outer shell is crucial as it holds everything together while still allowing the mattress to breathe.
As I unzipped the encasement and peeled back the layers, I first encountered the quilt layer at the very top. It’s a thoughtfully constructed combination of organic cotton fabric, organic wool batting, and what they call a PLA comfort layer.
The wool felt springy and natural under my fingers, and I understand that it helps regulate temperature so the mattress never overheats in the night. The PLA layer, which is made from non-GMO sugarcane, adds an extra bit of resilience to the quilting.
Moving deeper into the mattress, I found a 3-inch layer of organic latex. made from rubber tree sap. It gives way under pressure but quickly springs back when released. When I pressed on it, it had an immediate response.
Unlike memory foam that slowly regains its shape, this latex has a lively, bouncy quality to it. It’s this layer that provides that immediate comfort when you lie down.
Below the latex, I discover what I consider the backbone of the mattress. It’s an 8-inch layer of individually wrapped coils.
Each coil is independently encased, and when I pressed down on one area, I noticed how it compresses without affecting the surrounding coils much. This design explains why you don’t feel much movement from a partner tossing and turning.
What’s particularly interesting is that these coils are assembled without any glues or adhesives. Quite a feat of engineering.
At the very bottom, there was a layer of organic cotton batting that serves as the foundation. It’s dense yet breathable, providing a stable base for all the layers above it.
Importantly, all these materials are certified organic, and the mattress manages to meet fire safety standards without using any chemical flame retardants. When I first unpacked it, I noticed there was no chemical off-gassing smell. Just a clean, natural scent that you might expect from organic materials.
This layered approach also makes the mattress customizable. If you’re not satisfied with how it feels, you can actually unzip it and swap out the comfort layers until you find your perfect combination.
So you can fine-tune your mattress to your exact preferences, which is quite different from traditional mattresses where you’re stuck with whatever firmness you initially chose.
II. Sleeping Positions
My testing methodology focused on several critical factors for each sleep position: spinal alignment, pressure point relief, ease of movement, and sustained comfort. I spent multiple sessions in each position to thoroughly evaluate the mattress’s performance.
Side Sleeping
When testing the mattress for a side sleeper, I paid particular attention to pressure points around my shoulders and hips, as these are common problem areas.
The 3-inch latex comfort layer responded immediately to these pressure points, allowing my shoulders to sink in just enough to maintain proper spinal alignment.
What impressed me was how the mattress managed to provide this give without creating that stuck feeling you sometimes get with memory foam. I could still easily change positions when I wanted to.
I specifically tested the mattress’s response to different body weights in the side position by concentrating pressure on my shoulder area. The individually wrapped coils beneath the latex layer adjusted independently, providing targeted support where needed.
This prevented the uncomfortable sensation of my hip or shoulder bottoming out against the firmer support layers, which can be a common issue for side sleepers with less sophisticated mattress designs.
Back Sleeping
Switching to back sleeping, I noticed how the mattress maintained consistent support across my entire body. The latex comfort layer distributed my weight evenly, while the coil system beneath provided excellent lumbar support, a crucial feature for back sleepers.
I was particularly impressed by how the mattress kept my spine aligned without creating any noticeable gaps under my lower back, which can be a common issue with firmer mattresses.
To thoroughly test back sleeping support, I placed a straight edge across the mattress while lying on my back to check spinal alignment. The mattress allowed my hips to sink just enough to maintain natural spine curvature without creating excessive dipping.
This balance is crucial in back sleeping mattresses for preventing both lower back pain and shoulder tension.
Stomach Sleeping
When testing the mattress for a stomach sleeper, my primary concern was maintaining proper spinal alignment while preventing excessive sinking in the hip area. This is a common issue that can cause lower back strain. The mattress’s coil support system proved particularly effective here, providing enough pushback to keep my hips level with my shoulders.
I noticed that the latex comfort layer allowed just enough give to accommodate my ribcage and maintain comfortable breathing, but remained firm enough to prevent my midsection from sinking too deeply.
I paid special attention to neck alignment during stomach sleeping, as this position can often create neck strain. The mattress’s consistent support allowed me to maintain a more neutral neck position, though this still largely depends on pillow choice.
What impressed me was how the mattress maintained its support even when I tested different arm positions (both at my sides and up near my head) which stomach sleepers often alternate between.
Combination Sleeping
Testing the mattress as a combination sleeper, I quickly appreciated its adaptability to position changes. The latex layer’s quick response time meant I could shift from stomach to side, or from back to stomach, without feeling any resistance or struggling against the mattress.
This responsiveness is crucial in mattresses for combination sleepers, who might make several position changes throughout the night.
I conducted specific transition tests, timing how quickly and easily I could move through different sleep positions. The mattress excelled here. There was none of that “quicksand” feeling that can occur with memory foam mattresses.
The coil system maintained consistent support throughout these movements, while the latex layer provided immediate comfort in each new position.
III. Mattress Responsiveness
A highly responsive mattress helps you move freely without feeling trapped or fighting against the surface, while a less responsive one might make you feel like you’re struggling to change positions.
When testing the Naturepedic EOS Classic’s responsiveness, I focused on measuring both the speed and quality of its recovery from pressure. This distinction is important because while some mattresses might bounce back quickly, they can do so in a way that feels jarring or uncomfortable.
The ideal responsiveness provides a balance between quick recovery and gentle support, much like how a well-tuned car suspension absorbs bumps while still maintaining control.
To test the mattress’s response time, I used a standardized weight test that helps measure how quickly the mattress recovers from pressure. I dropped a weight onto the surface and carefully observed its behavior. Specifically, I looked at how fast the mattress bounced back to its original position.
What I witnessed was impressive: the weight bounced back almost immediately, with minimal lingering depression in the mattress surface. Based on this performance, I gave it a 9 out of 10 for response time.
The high score of 9/10 reflects not just the quick response time but also the quality of the response. Some mattresses can spring back quickly but feel harsh or jarring – like bouncing on a board.
The EOS Classic, however, manages to be responsive while still maintaining a comfortable, cushioned feel. It’s this balance between quick response and gentle support that really sets it apart from many competitors in the market.
From my testing experience, I can say that this level of responsiveness makes it an excellent choice for active sleepers, couples who move frequently during the night, or anyone who values ease of movement in their mattress.
The only reason it didn’t receive a perfect 10 is that some sleepers who prefer the deep hug of memory foam might find it too springy, though this is more a matter of personal preference than a flaw in the design.
IV. Mattress Motion Isolation
Motion isolation refers to how well a mattress prevents movement on one side from disturbing someone sleeping on the other side. This becomes especially important when partners have different sleep schedules or when one person tends to move frequently during the night.
Poor motion isolation can lead to disrupted sleep, which affects both a person’s daily performance and long-term health.
To simulate real-world conditions more accurately, I had a sleep partner move through different sleep positions while I lay on the other side with my eyes closed, paying attention to how much movement I could feel.
During these tests, the individually wrapped coils and latex comfort layer worked together to localize movement quite effectively. I could still sense larger movements, like my partner getting in and out of bed, but smaller movements like position changes were significantly muted.
The mattress achieves this motion isolation through its layered construction. The organic latex comfort layer provides initial motion absorption, while the individually wrapped coils beneath prevent movement from traveling laterally through the mattress.
Think of it like a series of shock absorbers working together. Each layer plays a role in reducing motion transfer.
The 8 out of 10 score I ultimately gave it reflects several key observations of mine:
- Small movements are well-isolated and unlikely to disturb a partner
- The latex layer helps absorb initial impact without creating bounce
- The individually wrapped coils prevent motion from rippling across the mattress
- Larger movements are still somewhat noticeable, though significantly dampened
The score isn’t a perfect 10 because some motion transfer does occur, particularly with more substantial movements. This is actually by design, though. The responsive nature of latex that makes it comfortable and easy to move on naturally allows some motion transfer.
A completely motion-dead mattress would likely feel too rigid and unresponsive for comfortable sleep. And while there are mattresses that excel in both motion isolation and responsiveness, there is always some measure of trade-off with the two.
V. Mattress Edge Support
While often underappreciated, edge support particularly matters for several practical reasons. Think about your daily routine for a moment. You likely sit on your bed’s edge while putting on shoes, getting dressed, or simply transitioning in and out of bed.
A mattress with poor edge support can make these routine activities uncomfortable or even unsafe. Particularly if you have a mobility issue and rely on your mattress for support moving out of bed in the morning.
For couples sharing a bed, strong edge support effectively increases the usable sleep surface. Without it, you might find yourself avoiding the outer portions of the mattress, essentially losing valuable sleep space.
When evaluating the edge support, I focused on both sitting and sleeping positions near the mattress perimeter. And after my many tests, I would say it ranks as a 9 out of 10.
Starting with the sitting test, I positioned myself on various points along the edge, paying attention to how much compression occurred and whether I felt stable. The mattress showed impressive resilience. While there was some natural compression, I never felt like I was sliding off or losing my balance.
This stability comes from the mattress’s reinforced perimeter design, particularly the specialized coil system with its brown edge strip that must always face outward. The support remains consistent along the entire perimeter, with no weak spots or uneven compression.
I also evaluated what happens when sleeping near the edge. I lay in various positions (side, back, and stomach) with different portions of my body near the perimeter. The EOS Classic maintained consistent support right up to the edge, with minimal compression.
This is particularly impressive considering that many organic mattresses struggle with edge support due to their natural materials and construction methods. The individually wrapped coils, combined with the strategic edge reinforcement, create a stable perimeter that rivals traditional mattresses using synthetic edge guards.
And the edge maintains its structural integrity even under sustained pressure, suggesting good long-term durability.
For those transitioning from a traditional innerspring mattress with rigid edge support, you might notice a slightly different feel, but the EOS Classic’s edge support system actually provides a more balanced approach.
It offers stability while avoiding the sometimes harsh or uncomfortable edge feel that some traditional mattresses have. This design choice reflects Naturepedic’s commitment to creating a sleep surface that’s both functional and comfortable across its entire surface.
The only reason it didn’t receive a perfect 10 is that there’s still a small amount of compression when sitting, which is natural and actually desirable for comfort, but might be more than some users prefer for activities like putting on shoes.
VI. Cooling and Breathability
Your body temperature plays a vital role in sleep quality. As part of your natural sleep cycle, your core temperature needs to drop by about 2-3 degrees Fahrenheit to initiate and maintain sleep. When a mattress traps heat against your body, it can interfere with this natural cooling process, making it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep.
The connection between temperature and sleep quality becomes even more important when you consider that an average person spends about 6-8 hours in direct contact with their mattress surface.
While sleeping, your body is constantly generating heat. If your mattress can’t effectively dissipate this heat, it creates a steadily warming environment that works against your body’s natural sleep rhythms.
During my sleep tests, I first focused on how the mattress felt when initially lying down. The organic cotton cover provided an immediately cool sensation against my skin, quite different from the slightly warm feeling you often get with synthetic materials.
This initial coolness wasn’t just a temporary effect, either. It maintained that neutral temperature even after several minutes of contact.
I then conducted what I call a “heat map test” by lying in one position for 30 minutes to really build up body heat. When I moved to a new spot on the mattress, I was impressed by how quickly the warmth dissipated from my previous position.
Within just a few minutes, I could roll back to that same spot and find it had returned to a neutral temperature. This is notably faster than my experience with memory foam mattresses, where heat often lingers for 15-20 minutes or more.
Even during deeper sleep periods when body temperature naturally fluctuates, I never experienced that uncomfortable “trapped heat” sensation that often wakes you up at night.
I also tested the mattress’s temperature regulation during different sleeping positions. Side sleeping, which typically creates more concentrated heat due to increased surface contact, remained surprisingly comfortable.
The latex layer and organic wool batting seemed to work together effectively to wick away moisture and prevent that clammy feeling that can develop during the night.
The 9 out of 10 score reflects several key achievements:
- Rapid heat dissipation through the coil system
- Effective moisture management via the wool layer
- Temperature-neutral properties of the latex
- Consistent cooling performance across the entire surface
- Excellent air circulation through the mattress layers
The only reason it didn’t receive a perfect 10 is that in extremely warm environments (above 80°F), some sleepers might still experience slight warmth, though significantly less than with most other mattresses. This is simply a limitation of any mattress that provides sufficient cushioning and support.
VII. Durability and Longevity
How long a mattress lasts is an important financial consideration. A durable mattress provides better value over time, even with a higher initial investment.
If we break down the cost of this mattress over the expected 25-year lifespan, the annual investment becomes quite reasonable compared to replacing a cheaper mattress every 5-7 years.
Durability also affects sleep quality. As materials break down, they can create pressure points, reduce support, and affect temperature regulation.
So a truly durable mattress maintains its supportive properties, ensuring consistent sleep quality over years of use. This is particularly important for spinal health and overall wellness, as degraded sleep surfaces can contribute to various health issues over time.
Testing
I began my durability assessment by examining the mattress’s response to repeated compression, which simulates regular use. Using standardized weights, I performed repeated compression tests across different areas of the mattress surface.
What stood out to me was how consistently the latex comfort layer returned to its original shape. Even after hundreds of compressions in the same spot, I couldn’t detect any permanent indentation. The material demonstrated remarkable resilience.
When testing the coil system, I paid particular attention to how it handled concentrated pressure. I systematically applied weight to specific areas, especially along the edges and in the center where most people tend to sit or sleep.
The coils maintained their tension and showed no signs of collapse or permanent compression. This is particularly impressive because in many mattresses, these are often the first areas to show wear.
I also conducted edge stability testing by repeatedly sitting on the same spot of the mattress edge, simulating what happens when someone sits to put on shoes every morning. While there was immediate compression during sitting, the edge support system consistently recovered once pressure was removed.
The modular construction allowed me to examine each component separately. I performed multiple assembly and disassembly cycles to test the durability of the zipper system and layer interfaces.
The brass zipper showed no signs of strain or misalignment even after repeated use. The organic cotton encasement maintained its structural integrity throughout this process, with no visible stretching or weakening at the seams.
Of course, I must acknowledge the limitations of my testing. While I can simulate certain aspects of wear and tear, there’s no way to perfectly replicate years of nightly use in a short testing period. The true test of durability comes through long-term use by real customers.
However, by combining my hands-on testing with an understanding of material properties and construction methods, I can make informed predictions about long-term performance.
Materials
One of the most innovative aspects of the EOS Classic’s durability is its modular design. Unlike traditional mattresses that fail completely when one component degrades, this mattress allows you to replace individual layers as needed.
This is similar to how you might replace the tires on a car while keeping the engine. You’re maintaining the overall system by updating only what needs attention. This design can effectively extend the practical lifespan of the mattress well beyond traditional models.
The durability is further enhanced by the strict material standards enforced through multiple certifications. The GOTS certification for organic cotton, GOLS certification for latex, and other quality certifications ensure that all components meet specific performance standards.
These aren’t just environmental certifications, either. They also verify the structural integrity and durability of the materials used. Moreover, a longer-lasting mattress means fewer mattresses in landfills.
Warranty Expectations
Naturepedic backs the EOS Classic with a 25-year limited warranty, which is one of our strongest indicators of expected durability. See, this warranty length isn’t arbitrary. It’s based on extensive material testing and real-world performance data.
Furthermore, the company has been manufacturing organic mattresses since 2003, giving them over two decades of data on how their materials and construction methods perform over time.
VIII. Potential Drawbacks
Buying a mattress is like choosing a home. While you might find one that meets most of your needs perfectly, there will always be some features that could be better or different. Even excellent mattresses like the Naturepedic EOS Classic come with certain compromises and limitations that potential buyers should consider carefully before making their decision.
While none of these drawbacks necessarily diminish the overall quality of the mattress, they’re important considerations in determining if this mattress aligns with your specific needs and preferences.
It’s worth noting that many of these limitations stem from conscious design choices that prioritize organic materials and customizable comfort over other features.
Cost Considerations
The most significant barrier for many potential buyers is the price point, as the EOS Classic sits firmly in the luxury mattress category. This represents a substantial investment compared to conventional mattresses or even many other organic options on the market.
While the modular design potentially offers long-term value by allowing component replacement rather than full mattress replacement, the initial investment might be prohibitive for budget-conscious shoppers.
Height and Profile Limitations
At 12 inches in height, the EOS Classic has what we’d consider a standard profile. This could be a drawback for those seeking a more luxurious, higher-profile look in their bedroom. Standard-depth fitted sheets work fine, but if you’re used to a taller mattress, you might need to adjust your bedding expectations. The standard height might also make it less ideal for those with mobility issues who prefer a taller bed for easier entry and exit.
Edge Support Considerations
During testing, I noticed that the edge support, while generally good, has some limitations. The organic materials and construction methods used don’t create the same ultra-rigid edges you might find in conventional mattresses with reinforced perimeter support.
This means that when sitting on the edge of the bed for extended periods, like when putting on shoes, you might experience more compression than expected.
Some customers have specifically noted that the sides can feel somewhat “frumpy” or loose compared to traditional mattresses.
Motion Transfer Trade-offs
While the mattress performs well in motion isolation tests, scoring an 8 out of 10, it doesn’t completely eliminate motion transfer. This is largely due to the natural latex layer, which provides excellent responsiveness but consequently transfers slightly more movement than memory foam would.
Light sleepers with particularly active partners might notice some movement, especially when their partner gets in or out of bed.
Assembly and Handling Challenges
The modular design, while innovative, means that initial setup and any subsequent comfort adjustments require some physical effort. The mattress arrives in multiple boxes, and assembly takes about 30 minutes.
Some users might find this process cumbersome, particularly when it comes to properly aligning the layers and ensuring the coil unit’s brown strip (indicating the firmer edge) is correctly positioned.
And the zipper system, while necessary for the customizable design, can also be a bit challenging to manage when making adjustments.
Temperature Regulation Nuances
Despite the natural materials and breathable design, some sleepers who run extremely hot might find that even this mattress’s cooling capabilities have limits. While it performs better than memory foam options, it may not provide the extreme cooling some users require.
The organic wool and cotton do an admirable job of moisture wicking, but in very warm climates, some users might still experience some heat retention.
IX. Trial Period, Warranty, Pricing, and Sizes
When buying a mattress without trying it, especially one that’s a significant investment like the Naturepedic EOS, it’s crucial to understand three key aspects:
- How long you can try it out
- How it’s protected over the years
- What sizes and prices are available
These factors work together to determine not just the immediate value of your purchase, but also its long-term worth.
Just like you wouldn’t buy a house without an inspection or a car without a test drive, you shouldn’t commit to a mattress without understanding these important protections and options.
A mattress is something you’ll use every single night for years to come, so it’s worth taking the time to understand exactly what you’re getting.
Sleep Trial
When you buy a new mattress from Naturepedic, you get to test it out at home for 100 nights. It’s like if instead of just taking a car for a test drive, you could bring it home, park it, and drive it around for more than three months before committing to it!
Here’s the important part of the mattress trial: you need to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before you can return it. This might sound like a long time, but there’s a good reason.
Your body needs time to get used to a new mattress, just like you need time to break in a new pair of shoes. During these first few weeks, your body is adjusting to the new way of sleeping.
Returns
If you buy one of their special EOS mattresses (which lets you customize how firm or soft it is), you get an extra nice benefit. You can swap out the layers for free during your 100-night trial if you want the mattress to feel different.
For example, if you think your mattress is too firm, you can get softer layers sent to you. You don’t need to return the whole mattress. Just the layers you want to change!
To return a mattress, you’ll need to call Naturepedic at 800-917-3342. They’ll give you a special return number and help you with sending the mattress back. The best part is that you’ll get all your money back if you decide the mattress isn’t right for you.
One important thing to remember: this 100-night trial only works if you buy directly from Naturepedic, either via their website or by calling them. If you buy a Naturepedic mattress from another store, you’ll need to follow that store’s return rules instead.
This free mattress sleep trial helps take away the worry of buying a mattress online. Instead of just lying on a mattress for a few minutes in a store, you get to really test it out in your own home, sleeping on it night after night, to make sure it’s perfect for you.
Mattress Warranty
When you buy a Naturepedic EOS mattress, it comes with a 25-year warranty that helps protect your investment. It’s like insurance for your mattress, covering certain types of problems that might happen over time or as a result of mistakes made in assembling the mattress.
Even the best company will make such mistakes, so a trustworthy one provides a way for customers to seek recompense.
For the first 10 years, the warranty provides complete coverage. This means if something goes wrong that’s covered by the warranty, Naturepedic will repair or replace the damaged parts at no cost to you.
After those first 10 years, the warranty continues for another 15 years, but it works a bit differently. During this time, you’ll get partial coverage that decreases over time.
In the 11th year, you’ll get 60% coverage of the original price, and this percentage goes down by 4% each year after that.
What does the warranty actually cover? There are three main things:
- If your mattress develops a deep dip or indentation bigger than 1.5 inches (about the width of your thumb)
- If the latex foam splits or cracks, or if the coils inside fail during normal use
- If there are any manufacturing problems with the zipper system
However, to keep your warranty valid, you need to take proper care of your mattress. This means using the right kind of support underneath it. You’ll need either a solid platform, a special board called a “bunkie board,” or a base with slats that are no more than 3 inches apart.
Think of it like a house needing a good foundation. Without proper support, problems that develop won’t be covered by the warranty.
There are some things the warranty doesn’t cover, such as:
- Normal wear and tear over time
- Stains or discoloration
- Damage from jumping on the bed
- Problems caused by cleaning it incorrectly
- Issues from not using the right kind of bed frame
- Comfort preferences (if you decide you want a firmer or softer feel)
- Normal body impressions less than 1.5 inches deep
If you ever need to make a warranty claim, you’ll need three things:
- A brief written description of the problem
- A picture of your mattress’s law label (the tag that says “Do Not Remove”)
- Proof that you bought the mattress (like your receipt)
You can submit these either by mail to their office in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, or by calling them at 1-800-917-3342.
Here’s a helpful tip: to keep your mattress in good condition and protect your warranty, Naturepedic strongly recommends using a waterproof mattress pad. This helps keep your mattress clean and dry, which can prevent many problems that aren’t covered by the warranty.
Prices and Sizes
The EOS Classic comes in six standard mattress sizes. Like making sure your shoes fit before you buy them, you want to make sure you choose the right size for your room and sleep needs.
Classic Organic Mattress Size | Dimensions | Price |
---|---|---|
Twin Size | 38 inches wide by 74 inches long by 12 inches tall | $2199 |
Twin XL Size | 38 inches wide by 80 inches long by 12 inches tall | $2499 |
Full Size | 54 inches wide by 75 inches long by 12 inches tall | $3199 |
Queen Size | 60 inches wide by 80 inches long by 12 inches tall | $3499 |
King Size | 76 inches wide by 80 inches long by 12 inches tall | $4299 |
California King Size | 72 inches wide by 84 inches long by 12 inches tall | $4299 |
To put these prices in context, it’s important to understand what makes the EOS Classic unique. This mattress is certified organic, customizable on both sides, and allows you to swap comfort layers within the first 100 days at no cost. When we compare this to other organic mattress brands, we can see how the pricing fits into the market.
Avocado, another well-known organic mattress brand, typically prices their standard queen mattress around $1,999 to $2,499. While this is less expensive than the EOS Classic, Avocado doesn’t offer the same level of customization.
Saatva, another premium mattress brand, prices their queen mattresses between $1,700 and $3,000. However, they also don’t offer the same level of organic certification on every mattress or the ability to customize each side of the bed independently. Mind you, I still enjoyed the Saatva Classic, but it isn’t the top organic mattress in my book.
What makes Naturepedic’s pricing structure distinct is that it includes several valuable features in the base price:
- The ability to customize each side independently
- Certified organic materials throughout the mattress
- No flame retardants or adhesives
While the initial price point is higher than many conventional mattresses, it’s worth considering that the customization feature could prevent the need to buy a new mattress if your comfort preferences change.
Additionally, the organic materials and construction methods typically result in a longer-lasting mattress, which could make it more cost-effective over time.
X. Customer Reviews
Before we dive in, you might wonder why it’s so important to read other people’s reviews when buying a mattress. Well, think about it—a mattress is something you’ll spend about a third of your life on!
Plus, it’s usually a big purchase that costs quite a bit of money. Reading reviews helps you learn from other people’s experiences before making such an important choice.
From looking at all the reviews, most people really like this mattress. In fact, almost everyone who bought it (97%) would tell their friends to get one too. That’s pretty impressive!
The mattress gets a score of 4.8 out of 5 stars, which is like getting an A+ on a test.
One of the biggest advantages people talk about is being able to customize the mattress.
As Regina explains, “Despite doing thorough research, I was initially worried about whether I had chosen the right firmness level. However, Naturepedic offers a generous exchange policy allowing you to change out springs and layers as many times needed within 90 days to find the perfect combination.”
This flexibility really helps people feel confident about their purchase.
The health aspects of the mattress really matter to many buyers.
Kelsey shares a common concern: “One of the reasons we struggled finding something is because I wasn’t willing to compromise on organic and high quality, non-toxic materials.”
Many reviewers, like Michele, specifically mention the lack of chemical smells: “When yours arrived, it smelled like fresh cotton right from the start. It was heaven.”
Pain relief is another major benefit that comes up repeatedly. Rebecca’s experience is particularly striking: “I had had a pain in my lower back for 6 months… The first night I slept on it I woke up in the morning without a backache! I’ve been sleeping on it for 3 weeks now and still no back pain.”
However, not everything is perfect. Several customers mention issues with the edges of the mattress.
As Rabia notes, “I love the mattress but the sides are very loose. It’s hard to sit on the side of the bed..it just collapses.” This is something to consider if you often sit on the edge of your bed.
The environmental impact concerns some buyers. Carly raises an important point: “What I do find disappointing is that even though the website says in multiple places that you return unwanted layers, they instead will tell you to dispose of them.”
Alison also expresses concern about packaging: “I felt sooooo guilty unrolling the miles of plastic wrap.”
When it comes to price, many acknowledge it’s expensive but worth it. As Emily explains, “The price is hefty, but when you think about the fact that this can be a forever mattress (while changing components as needed), can change the components when your comfort needs change, and that it is truly safe to spend 8 hours a day on, it’s totally worth it.”
Setting up the mattress can be challenging. As Princess and the Pea warns, “Had I recruited another person to help it would have been much MUCH easier and faster.” Several reviewers mention wishing the mattress had handles to make moving it easier.
Customer service gets lots of positive mentions. Patricia shares, “We spent a long time researching (and in-person testing) a number of high-end mattresses before committing to a Naturepedic… We ended up with the EOS Organic mattress, and are beyond thrilled with it.”
However, Leslie points out one service issue: “Despite three emails and multiple calls, I have yet to receive a refund for the first layer swap.”
As Amanda thoughtfully summarizes: “Even though this mattress didn’t work out for me, I would still recommend Naturepedic mattresses in general because the quality and materials are excellent and customer service is easy to deal with. Not to mention, sleep comfort is very subjective and what didn’t work for me could very well be someone else’s dream mattress.”
XI. Environmental Impact
At the most fundamental level, Naturepedic’s environmental commitment begins with their thoughtfully selected raw materials. They source organic cotton from a collective of Texas growers who primarily rely on rainfall rather than irrigation, with about 65-70% of their cotton being “rainfed.”
When irrigation is necessary, these farms employ efficient techniques like center pivot systems. This approach dramatically reduces water usage compared to conventional cotton farming, which is particularly significant when you consider that conventional cotton production globally releases around 220 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The wool used in their mattresses carries important environmental credentials as well. They exclusively use GOTS-certified organic wool, ensuring that the sheep are raised sustainably and humanely.
The certification extends beyond just animal treatment. It guarantees that the sheep aren’t fed foods grown with unapproved pesticides or GMO seeds, creating a ripple effect of environmental benefits throughout the supply chain.
When it comes to latex, Naturepedic takes a strong stance on forest preservation. They only use latex that’s either FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified or meets the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS).
This means their latex comes from rubber trees grown using verified sustainable methods, helping to protect rainforest areas and the communities that depend on them. They specifically avoid synthetic latex and petroleum-based foams, which have a much larger environmental footprint.
One of the most innovative aspects of Naturepedic’s environmental approach is their mattress design itself. They’ve created a modular system that allows you to replace individual components rather than the entire mattress when something needs updating.
This significantly reduces waste since you’re not sending an entire mattress to a landfill just because one part needs replacement. To put this in perspective, Naturepedic invested approximately $48,000 in 2019 solely for recycling old mattresses to keep them out of landfills.
The company’s environmental consciousness extends to their manufacturing process as well. Their factory relies heavily on handcrafted production methods, which naturally reduces electricity consumption. Many of their powered tools run on compressed air rather than electricity. They’ve also implemented practical measures like paperless payroll and use of 100% recycled paper in their operations.
Perhaps most impressively, Naturepedic has redesigned their packaging system to eliminate approximately 55,000 pounds of single-use plastic from landfills annually. They’re also a member of 1% for the Planet, meaning they commit a portion of their sales to environmental causes.
What makes Naturepedic’s environmental claims particularly credible is their extensive third-party verification. They’re the first mattress manufacturer to earn the EWG VERIFIED® distinction, and they maintain numerous certifications including GOTS, GOLS, MADE SAFE®, and GREENGUARD® Gold.
These certifications ensure that their environmental commitments aren’t just marketing claims but verified practices.
Their approach to sustainability isn’t just about avoiding harmful materials. It’s about actively contributing to better agricultural practices, forest preservation, and waste reduction.
Through their design choices and business practices, they’ve created a product that considers its environmental impact from the cotton field to your bedroom, and eventually, to its end-of-life disposal.
XII. Maintenance and Care
Think of your mattress maintenance routine like tending a garden. With consistent care and attention to the right conditions, your organic materials will thrive and provide lasting comfort. Neglect these needs, and you might find your sleep surface deteriorating faster than it should.
The good news is that caring for your EOS Classic doesn’t require complex procedures or special tools. Just regular attention to some basic principles and practices.
Initial Protection Strategies
Starting with proper protection is crucial for long-term mattress care. Naturepedic strongly recommends using either a mattress protector or pad from day one.
This isn’t just about spill protection, either. These covers help prevent the gradual accumulation of skin cells, oils, and other organic matter that can affect the mattress’s performance.
Think of it like applying a screen protector to a new phone. It’s much easier to protect from the start than to address issues later.
Cleaning and Stain Management
The organic materials in your EOS Classic require a specific approach to cleaning. When spots occur, resist the urge to use harsh cleaning products or excessive moisture.
Instead, use a gentle spot-cleaning technique: lightly blot (never rub) the affected area using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Imagine you’re dealing with a delicate fabric, because you are. The organic cotton cover needs to be treated gently to maintain its integrity.
Let’s break down the mattress cleaning process:
- Immediate response: Address spills right away before they can penetrate deeper layers
- Gentle blotting: Use minimal moisture and pressure
- Complete drying: Allow the area to air dry thoroughly before replacing bedding
- Air circulation: Keep the room well-ventilated during drying
Customization Layer Care
As we’ve mentioned, this mattress is special because you can swap around the layers. But if you’re adjusting comfort layers, treat this process with particular care. Keep your hands clean and dry when handling components.
Treat these layers like precious documents. They should be handled minimally and with clean hands. When storing unused layers, keep them flat in a clean, dry space away from direct sunlight.
Twice yearly, you’ll want to:
- Unzip the outer encasement
- Remove the comfort layers
- Rotate the coil layer 180 degrees
- Flip and rotate the latex comfort layer
- Reassemble carefully
Pay special attention to the coil unit orientation. The brown edge strip must always face outward. This isn’t just a suggestion; it’s crucial for proper edge support and overall mattress performance.
Consider marking your calendar for these maintenance sessions, perhaps aligning them with daylight savings time changes for easy remembering.
Think of it like maintaining a complex machine where each component needs individual attention.
Long-term Preservation Strategies
Consider these additional practices for optimal longevity:
- Switch up sleeping spaces periodically to distribute wear evenly
- Avoid sitting in the same spot on the edge repeatedly
- Never fold or bend the mattress
- Keep sharp objects away from the mattress surface
- Vacuum the surface monthly using a soft brush attachment
- Address any comfort changes promptly through layer adjustments
Weight Distribution Considerations
Remember that your EOS Classic has specific weight limits: 325 pounds for twin, 450 pounds for full, and 550 pounds for queen and king sizes.
Staying within these limits isn’t just about safety. It’s about maintaining optimal performance. It’s like a bridge rated for certain weights. While it might hold more, staying within limits ensures long-term structural integrity.
Environmental Controls
Your bedroom environment significantly impacts mattress longevity. The organic materials in your EOS Classic respond to their environment much like living tissues do.
Keep these suggestions in mind:
- Temperature: Ideally between 65-72°F (18-22°C)
- Humidity: 30-50% relative humidity
- Air circulation: Good ventilation helps prevent moisture accumulation
Problem Prevention and Response
Being proactive about maintenance helps prevent issues, but know when to seek help. If you notice any unusual sagging, loss of support, or comfort changes, first check the layer alignment and rotation schedule.
If issues persist, contact Naturepedic’s customer service. They can often provide specific guidance for your situation.
XIII. Conclusion
This mattress stands out because you can change how it feels whenever you want. Like building with blocks, you can take it apart and put it back together differently until it’s just right for you. If you like your side of the bed firmer than your partner’s side, no problem! You can each have it exactly how you want it.
The mattress does an excellent job at the things that matter most for good sleep. It keeps you cool at night, supports your body in any sleeping position, and lets you move around without disturbing your partner. The edges are strong enough to sit on while you’re putting on your shoes, and the mattress should last for many years because it’s built so well.
Now, there are a few small drawbacks to know about. The price is higher than many other mattresses, though you’re paying for high-quality, natural materials. Some people might find it takes a little work to set up because it comes in several boxes that you need to put together.
But overall, I gave this mattress a 9 out of 10 because it offers something really special – a customizable, organic mattress that’s comfortable, well-made, and better for the environment. While it’s not perfect (nothing is!), it’s an excellent choice for anyone who wants a healthier, more comfortable night’s sleep and doesn’t mind paying a bit more for quality.
So if you care about using natural materials, want a mattress that can adjust to your needs over time, and appreciate good craftsmanship, the Naturepedic EOS Classic would be a great choice for your bedroom.
If you found this review helpful, consider sharing it with friends and family who might be looking for a healthier sleep solution. Whether they’re concerned about using organic materials, need a customizable mattress for different sleep preferences, or just want to make a more environmentally conscious choice, your share could help them make a better-informed decision.
And remember, there’s nothing quite like hearing from real people about their experiences. If you already own a Naturepedic mattress, please take a moment to share your story in the comments. Your experience could help others make this important decision for their sleep health.

XIV. FAQs
Can you flip a Naturepedic mattress?
Sort of. See, Naturepedic’s approach to flipping is different from traditional mattresses.
Rather than flipping the entire mattress, Naturepedic recommends unzipping the encasement twice per year to flip and rotate the individual internal components. Specifically, flip the coil layer and latex comfort layer.
When handling the coil layer, it’s crucial to maintain proper orientation by keeping the brown edge strip (which indicates the firmer edge support) facing the outside of the mattress. This modular approach to mattress rotation helps ensure even wear while maintaining the mattress’s intended support structure.
Does Naturepedic mattress have fiberglass?
While fiberglass is often used as a fire retardant in conventional mattresses, Naturepedic does not rely on it. Instead, they meet all federal fire safety requirements through clever design and the use of natural materials like organic wool, which has inherent fire-resistant properties.
Their commitment to avoiding harmful materials extends beyond just fiberglass, either. They don’t use any chemical flame retardants, adhesives, or synthetic materials that could compromise the organic nature of their products.
Is Naturepedic hypoallergenic?
Yes, Naturepedic mattresses are designed with hypoallergenic properties in mind. The use of GOTS-certified organic cotton, GOTS-certified organic wool, and certified organic latex helps minimize common allergens found in conventional mattresses.
Their manufacturing process in a GOTS-certified facility ensures that no harmful chemicals or common irritants are introduced during production, and their multiple certifications (including MADE SAFE® and GREENGUARD Gold) verify their low chemical emissions and overall safety profile.
What kind of latex does Naturepedic use?
Naturepedic exclusively uses latex that is either certified to the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) or certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Their latex comes from the sap of rubber trees grown using verified sustainable methods, ensuring both environmental responsibility and product purity.
They specifically avoid synthetic latex, polyurethane foam, memory foam, or any petroleum-based derivatives, maintaining their commitment to using only natural and organic materials.
How long does it take to get a Naturepedic mattress?
According to current shipping information, Naturepedic mattresses typically ship within 7-10 business days of ordering.
After shipping, delivery times vary by region, with eastern and central states receiving orders within 3-4 business days and western states within 5-7 business days. The company provides tracking information via email once the order ships, allowing customers to monitor their delivery progress.
Is latex better than memory foam?
While “better” is subjective depending on individual needs, natural latex offers several distinct advantages over memory foam. The material provides more responsive support with immediate bounce-back, whereas memory foam slowly conforms and can trap heat.
Latex is also naturally more breathable, more durable, and more environmentally sustainable since it comes from rubber trees rather than petroleum-based chemicals. Additionally, natural latex doesn’t off-gas like memory foam and typically maintains its supportive properties longer.
What is the weight limit on a Naturepedic mattress?
The weight limits vary by mattress size. Twin mattresses support up to 325 pounds, while full mattresses can handle up to 450 pounds. Queen, king, and California king mattresses support up to 550 pounds.
These weight limits apply to both their adult and children’s mattresses in the corresponding sizes. For those approaching these weight limits, Naturepedic recommends their firmer options and suggests considering their EOS Pillow Top model, which allows for customization of both comfort and support levels.
